NTT DOCOMO's Touch Wood mockups make naughty puns easy

We're still not entirely sold on the intersection of gadgets and wood. Nevertheless, companies keep pumping out the concepts in response to our greener times. Here's NTT DOCOMO's effort using surplus wood leftover from Pacific culling operations. The Touch Wood prototype was developed in tandem with Sharp and Olympus and is based on the SH-04A slider. A Touch Wood mockup (pictured above) resembling a more feminine bean was also announced. In either case, the Touch Wood body is made of cypress without adding any artificial coloring or paint. And by using Olympus' 3D compression molding technique, they've manage to maintain the kind of durability, and resistance to water, insects, and mildew that you'd expect from, well, a tree. The handsets will be on exhibit in October at the ITU Telecom World and CEATEC Japan shows... touch wood. SH-04A prototype pictured after the break.

Wooden Nokia concept phone goes beyond the drawing board, gets built

Oh sure, LG has teased us with a faux wood cellphone, and Hulger has actually produced one that four people in existence can afford, but this... this is something else. According to the captions in textlad's Flickr pool, Nokia's own eco-team designed and created the object of desire that you see above: an 8-megapixel "handset" that appears to function just fine. We can already tell you this thing isn't coming to market, but we would absolutely love to be proven wrong.

Mobiado Professional 105 EM / GCB handsets: too luxurious for our fingers

Heads up, affluent sect. The immensely pricey Professional 105 line is expanding, as two new members slip in to tempt your stuffed wallet. Mobiado's Professional 105 EM is available in Cocobolo and Ebony, and the frame is even constructed from anodized aluminum; you'll also notice sapphire crystal buttons and a black finish. As for the Professional 105 GCB, it's layered with a 5-micron thick 24-karat gold plating and jazzed up with a fancy logo 'round back. Both candybars feature quad-band GSM support, a measly 1GB of internal storage space and a ho hum 2-megapixel camera, but fret not, as it'll (very likely) be the most expensive lackluster cellphone you'll ever pay for.

Hulger offers up pricey wooden Ziricote*PHONE

If you thought these newfangled Treos were pricey, well, you're probably correct, but they don't have nuthin' on the likes of the Black Diamond, Gresso, and Hulger's Ziricote*PHONE. Following the mantra that regardless of price, someone will buy it, the firm has given its retro-styled PIP*PHONE a wooden makeover, thrown in some preserving wax, and jacked the price sky high. Built from that oh-so-coveted Ziricote hardwood, this handset comes in its own collector's box (also made from wood, go figure), rocks built-in Bluetooth, and "can be linked to all mobile and VoIP devices." This "one of a kind" gizmo will be on display at the Digital Wellbeing Showroom and can be picked up soon for £2,000 ($3,923) directly from Hulger.
