LG's Viewty Smart shipping this month, 12MP smartphone "later this year"

We've yet to see anything roll across LG's official wire, but oodles of legitimate UK sources are now reporting that LG's hotly anticipated Viewty Smart is making its way out to Orange shops. Strangely, it seems as if pricing details are still being held captive (really? at this point?), but we fully anticipate at least a small premium for 8 megapixels in a phone. Oh, and if you really needed any more affirmation that a 12 megapixel smartphone was in the works from this company, LG also took the opportunity to nod its head and promise one for "later this year." Goodie, goodie.

LG GC900 Viewty Smart gets coddled, previewed

After being officially unveiled (twice) for the European market last month, LG's GC900 Viewty Smart has finally arrived into the loving hands of those at GSMArena. The unit you see above is actually a pre-production unit, but it was baked enough to warrant a full-scale preview until review units start to ship. One of the biggest reveals was this line: "It's not a smartphone or anything, no matter how much we would have liked that; instead, it's a regular full touch feature phone, but one with a really polished UI and top-notch imaging capabilities." Critics spent a good bit of time checking out the still-novel 8MP camera, and while they were generally pleased with image quality and color, they weren't so stoked about the phone's ability to capture video. Overall though, they couldn't help but gush about the "gorgeous display" and "best-of-class user interface," which definitely leaves us even hungrier to wrap our own digits around a finalized unit.

LG's GC900 Viewty II gets Smart, gets official

Put away your smudgycams and break out your wallets, LG's Viewty II has been given the full studio photo treatment as part of an unveiling at LG's official blog. Dubbed the Smart, the GC900 is just 12.4 mm thick (under a half-inch), packing a 3-inch touchscreen on its face and of course that 8 megapixel camera on the back, confirmed to be able to capture video at 720 x 480 and geotag photos using the integrated A-GPS receiver. WLAN and HSDPA are also confirmed, but that's about all the info LG is setting in stone at the moment -- not that we didn't already know everything about it.

LG's Viewty II rumored for June release, all 8 megapixels of it

Looks like LG's about to treat the world to an upgrade of its popular Viewty handset. The Viewty II (aka, GC900) is rumored to be hitting Orange UK sometime in June. As a refresher, the VII (or juicy 900 if you must) is laden with impressive specs including LG's 3D S-Class UI riding a 3-inch WVGA touchscreen, accelerometer, and an 8 megapixel camera with xenon flash, manual and auto focus, image stabilization, ISO 1600 support (riiiight), A-GPS geotagging, slow motion video, and even DivX and Xvid playback. Add to that 32GB of expandable storage, WiFi, and 7.2Mbps HSDPA data and you'll understand our anticipation.

LG's GC900 Viewty II subjected to smudgycam treatment?

We caught wind of the supposed LG Viewty II last week at CeBIT, though weren't graced with photos til today -- a couple pics actually surfaced in comments, but lacked the xenon flash mentioned in the specs. PhoneArena has thrown a couple pics up of this 8 megapixel set and we're liking what we see: large display, uncluttered layout, and what appears to be a xenon flash. We've already seen the specs so now it's a waiting game as we get set for this to potentially waft our way -- provided it's loaded with bands we can use. LG's Viewty II about to take center stage at CeBIT?

LG's enormously popular Viewty seems about set for a upgrade with the potential launch of the 3D S-Class UI toting LG GC900 Viewty II. The GC900 features all kinds of goodness with a 3-inch WVGA touchscreen, an 8 megapixel camera -- with autofocus, xenon flash, film speed up to ISO 1600 -- geotagging, DivX and Xvid video support, and memory expansion up to 32GB. No bands were mentioned, but the GC900 has 7.2Mbps HSDPA for somewhere, WiFi is onboard, AGPS, and the camera will record slow motion video -- which is a riot on other devices. No pics, prices, or dates are attached, but we're hunting it down and will update as soon as we can.

LG's KC910 one-ups the Viewty, ships in October

LG's cover was blown late last month with the early unveiling of the KC910, but it's hard to ignore that warm, fuzzy feeling one gets when any outfit doles out the official verbiage as confirmation. The self-proclaimed Viewty successor (formally dubbed the LG-KC910) looks mighty fine on paper, with a 3-inch WQVGA touchscreen, 8-megapixel camera (with Schneider-Kreuznach certified optics and a Xenon flash), geotagging support, Dolby Mobile, video recording, A-GPS, 7.2Mbps HSDPA and integrated WiFi. Regrettably, LG failed to pass along the most pressing morsel of news (read: the price), but at least we know it'll be available somewhere in the world this October.

LG's KC910 takes over where Viewty left off, packs 8MP camera

Nah, it ain't the Prada II or anything, but who's to argue with an 8-megapixel camera? You heard right -- LG's followup to the Viewty is the KC910, a touchscreen-based handset that checks in at 14-millimeters thick and supports quad-band GSM / 7.2Mbps HSDPA. Furthermore, you'll find Bluetooth 2.0, WiFi, a 3-inch 400 x 240 resolution display, a microSD expansion slot, Xenon flash (alongside a Schneider-Kreuznach lens), video recording, TV output, a multimedia player (with DivX and XviD support, we're told) and built-in GPS. This feature-packed device is bruited to be on track for an October launch, though we've no idea how costly it'll be (nor what regions it will invade).

LG becomes 3rd biggest handset maker after moving 27.7 million units

It looks like Motorola's hard times have been particularly good for LG, as it has now moved (by some accounts at least) into the number three position among the top five handset makers, just a quarter after it passed Sony Ericsson to take the fourth spot. That comes after LG moved an impressive 27.7 million handsets in the past quarter, a full third of which were sold in North America. LG is also particularly quick to boast about sales of its pricier touchscreen phones, which totaled some seven million. Among those, the Viewty was the top seller, moving more than two million units, followed by the Venus with 1.6 million, and the Voyager with 1.3 million. It's apparently not all rosy for the company, however, with it also warning that the slowing economy could cause its average selling price to fall by 26 percent.

If the first thought on your mind when you saw the pink Viewty was, "man, I wish that came in a darker shade of pink," have a gander at this puppy. LG's 5 megapixel touchscreen masterpiece has reemerged in yet another color -- a straight-up red this time around, where it'll see introduction in Ukraine later this month. That's great, LG, but let's not milk this one too much longer, pretty please? The way we see it, you've got more important phones to recolor these days.

LG's Viewty is viewtiful, or something, in purple

We liked the Viewty in black. We liked its Prada forebear in silver. Heck, we even liked in pink. But a shocking shade of purple? That might be pushing the limits of decency, even among the most loudly-accessorized mobile maniacs. Alas, Orange is trumpeting the arrival of its "exclusive" purple Viewty, featuring the same 5 megapixel camera, xenon flash, HSDPA, and full touchscreen that made the original a winner. It can be had for as little as zilch on the right contract, so we've gotta throw the question out there: any takers?

LG's Viewty KE990 is downgraded KU990, destined for China?

Remember the KU990 Viewty? Of course you do, well, meet its twin -- but decidedly duller -- sibling, the KE990 -- notice that E? That means EDGE. This handset apparently brings most or all of the same goods to the table as the KU990 did but lacks HSDPA and dumps tri-band for dual. So yeah, rather than stuffing this thing with another HSDPA band -- ah-frickin'-hem -- LG has chosen to head in another, less interesting direction by stripping it of some of what made it glorious in the first place. Of course, if rumors of it going to China prove true, we get that removing the 3G radio will improve battery life and shrink the price a bit for that market -- as not all markets want that 3G speed -- but this still hurts as we're way cooler with more, better, faster around here. Hopefully we'll hear a little something announced at CTIA but until then, we'll simply pretend none of this ever happened.

As nice of a phone as the LG Viewty may be, it gets a little boring in black after a while. Then, another little while after that, it gets boring in silver. It's cool, though, because LG's just released a pink version for its domestic market -- and it can keep doing this all day, if you catch our drift. The company is throwing around the term "Pink Beauty" for this particular version (which seems both appropriate and a little disturbing at the same time) and is targeting it squarely at the fairer sex. A little presumptuous, perhaps? Look for it to start selling tomorrow for 730,000 won (about $752).

LG's KU990 "Viewty" now available in Europe

You've waited oh-so-patiently for LG's Viewty to land, and you've even tried to subdue your anxiety by combing over a glowing review, so feel free to cut loose now that the KU990 is finally available. Yep, starting today users can snatch up the mobile in "major European countries" for a still unannounced price, but we're willing to bet you'll pony up for all the joy that touchscreen, five-megapixel camera, DivX support, TV out and HSDPA will bring. Unfortunately, LG fails to mention any specific carriers in its release, but we'd assume Vodafone (and potentially Orange in the not-too-distant future) will be picking it up in their respective regions.

UPDATE: A couple of folks in comments have mentioned that the Viewty is a go on O2.
