The concept of exchanging voice minutes for obligatory ads pushed to handsets is a business model still very much in its infancy, but Blyk -- which currently has a live MVNO in the UK and plans to launch in the Netherlands later this year -- must be feeling good about its chances right now, because it has announced a planned expansion into the German, Belgian, and Spanish markets next year. Key to the service's success is recognition by advertisers that customers actually give a crap about the highly-targeted marketing material being pushed to them; Blyk claims that click-through rates are rockin', which is probably providing the impetus for the planned expansion. We're still not so sure we'd trade 217 text messages and 43 voice minutes a month for the privilege of being blasted with spam targeted promotions, but if they're somehow able to boost the allowance into the range of a typical plan and maintain profitability, they could be sitting on a gold mine.

Not like we haven't seen individuals diagnosed with cellphone addiction before, but two kids in Spain were so badly obsessed with their mobiles that they weaseled money from relatives to buy more airtime, began to fail classes and eventually wound up in a mental health clinic. The kids, aged 12 and 13, were reportedly spending around six hours per day talking, texting or playing games, presumably making them the perfect candidates for Sprint's Simply Everything plan. All jesting aside, doctors in the institution suggest that it could take a full year to wean them off of the "drug," as they each have become practically incapable of living a "normal" life without constantly interfacing with their handsets. Apple's relentless quest to spread the iPhone to every corner of the universe has officially nabbed yet another carrier. Movistar has been announced as an official partner for Spain, though no clues have been given about the launch date -- a common trend with the iPhone carrier partnership press releases as of late, we've noticed -- and the best that interested parties can do right now is sign up to be notified when more information becomes available. Any suckers out there want to bet us that they'll be launching the EDGE model? No?

Wouldn't it be cool if there was a little, teeny, tiny BlackBerry Enterprise Server tailored to families? After all, RIM's targeting the consumer market more aggressively than ever before with devices like the Pearl and Curve, so it makes sense to offer up a full menu of software to those same folks. Enter BlackBerry Unite!, a collaboration suite that sits on a PC and lets up to five peeps interchange calendars, access Internet and PC content, share media, and even manage and lock down phones connected to the service. Look for it to launch as a free download for Telefónica in Spain next month; no word yet on when we may see it elsewhere.

Imaginarium's telephony devices for children haven't typically looked like phones -- though we reckon that's by design -- and the trend continues with its latest, the Cam1. The rather beefy looking Cam1 is focused on video calling, giving parents an opportunity to get some visual confirmation that their children are safe and sound (though we're wondering what the toddler in the press shot here is doing far enough away from her parents to require a video call). Other features include 20MB of onboard memory, microSD expansion, and big, colorful buttons that we kinda want to press.
