T-Mobile still taking G1 pre-orders, but you won't get it on October 22

So the good news is that T-Mobile has decided to keep right on taking pre-orders for the G1 through October 21, just one day before the handset's official launch. The bad news, though, is that it doesn't mean you'll be getting your Android on come October 22. Turns out that the initial allotment of G1s set aside for pre-orders is now sold out completely, and any names taken between now and launch will be allotted phones being shipped "at a later date." It's not clear if a "later date" means a week, a month, or a decade after the 22nd, but for the sake of everyone involved, we hope its the former.

Update: T-Mobile's site says that pre-orders taken from here on out will be delivered "as early as November 10," so it looks like you early birds are going to have a nice little period of exclusivity. Thanks, everyone!

Peek email-only handheld now available for pre-order, in stores Monday

Man, the Peek email-only handheld must really be, uh, piquing people's interest -- it just went up for pre-orders and two of the three colors are already backordered a week. The $100 device should also be showing up in Targets nationwide Monday, so if you're as curious as we are they'll be easy to impulse purchase in person as well. Too bad that you're locked into that $19.95/mo data plan as your only option, though -- if we could somehow use our existing data plan or even pay a flat fee upfront for lifetime service we'd be way more likely to snag one. Anyone else picking one up?

Palm now happy to take your $549 for a Treo Pro preorder

Great news for Palm fans, Treo fans, Windows Mobile fans, and anyone who lives out in the sticks: the Treo Pro is now officially available for preorder. Palm's US site now lists the Treo Pro in glossy black "obsidian" for the expected $549 with shipping anticipated in two to three weeks. We'll admit, there's something vaguely sexy about an unlocked smartphone with North American 3G -- no matter how ancient the platform might be. Any chance this'll be upgradeable to Nova, Palm?

Sprint, Bluefish taking names for Touch Diamond, September release confirmed

Everything prior had been rumors, hearsay, speculation, and leaked documents -- but now that Sprint has something out in the open, it's going to be a whole hell of a lot more difficult to renege on that September time frame we'd all been pulling for. The carrier and partner Bluefish have thrown up a site taking names and email addresses to be notified when the Touch Diamond is available for purchase; no exact date is given (we wouldn't be surprised if Sprint still hadn't decided on that), but they do mention that it's "coming in September." That gives 'em a full 30 days to make good -- but if it just happened to roll out on September 2 like we'd originally heard, we don't think we'll be seeing too many complaints around here.

Verizon's Venus and Voyager available for pre-order

Seems to be Venus and Voyager day, first more lovely pics and now, pre-orders. The LG Venus and Voyager hit Verizon's site in all of their pre-order glory today, so if you've been itching for an update, your time is now. We've been all over the Venus a few times and as predicted, it has landed for $199 on a 2 year contract and is set for release on November 19th. Pre-orders for LG's Voyager have also started, though this QWERTY set is going to set you back $299 on a 2 year stint with availability slated for Nov 21st. Follow the links below if you've a hankering to plonk down your hard earned cash.

iPhones going to "preorders" at some AT&T stores?

Despite the fact that preorders weren't accepted for the iPhone -- at least not in any official capacity -- we've been tipped that at least one possibly unscrupulous AT&T location in Little Rock, Arkansas has told campers that they've already sold out of units. So if there wasn't any preorder, where'd they go? To Premier customers who... um, preordered, allegedly. Folks in line were informed that they were more than welcome to come back this evening and pay for the unit they can't have, at which point they'd be shipped out next week. Something smell fishy here?

Nokia 8600 goes up for preorder

Yo, Nokia, anyone home? One of the world's largest independent retailers of cellphones is thoroughly outing your 8600 here, and you seem to just be sitting idly by without an official announcement in sight. No bother; we guess the important thing is the phone, not the announcement -- we're just not totally used to it going down this way. As a refresher, the 8600 (codenamed "Luna") looks to be Nokia's newest piece of high-end envy, likely slotting in just below the 8800 Sirocco to satisfy the needs of the "I can't quite afford a Vertu" set. Carphone Warehouse's preorder site confirms that it'll have a 2 megapixel camera, 128MB of onboard storage, media player with integrated FM radio, A2DP, and a quadband GSM radio -- refreshing to see after North America got slighted with the Sirocco's tri-band internals. Depending on the selected O2 plan, prices range from zilch all the way up to £299.99 (about $596). For a phone this attractive, we're really liking the sound of "free."
