Palm Pre sales go live at Amazon

If you love the Pre, but hate Best Buy or Sprint, now you've got the option of nabbing one through an online reseller you can live with: Amazon. The device has just popped up on the super-retailer's site, and like the aforementioned blue and yellow reseller, you don't have to worry about any pesky mail-in rebates -- the phone is $199.99 out the virtual door. Also of note, you can nab the non-contract version for $499.99, which is a $50 savings over the Sprint pricing, and certainly a value compared to Best Buy's $749.99 price tag. Only bummer note? Amazon says these babies won't ship for 4 to 6 weeks... which basically sucks.

Nokia throws up "pre-order soon" logo on US N97, drives the kids crazy

Thanks to the always revealing FCC, we knew good and well Nokia's painfully expensive N97 had Carolina (and probably the other states, to be fair) on its mind, but now we know the moment of truth is drawing near. As of right now, Nokia's US website has a teaser block informing us Yanks that we'll be able to pre-order this here smartphone "soon." Hitting the link only directs us the European legalese that we've digested before, but surely it'll lead to something meaningful in due time. Patience... it's a virtue.

HTC Advantage X7510 available to USers for $1,300

It doesn't sound like Qualcomm has all of its legal woes here in America worked out just yet, but apparently that won't stop fat-walleted USers from snapping up the forthcoming HTC Advantage X7510 real soon. Both Dynamism and On The Go Solutions are expecting stock any day now, and they'll be shipping to your US-based address so long as you're willing to accept a $1,299 charge on your preferred piece of plastic. Before you brush this off as absurd, listen to that devil on your shoulder whispering things like "5-inch VGA display" and "HSDPA." Hmm.

Nokia inks $2 billion phone deal in China, shareholders unimpressed

As awesome of a win for Nokia as it sounds, it turns out that Espoo does a regular business with wholesale distributor China Postel, and this year's order of $2 billion falls short of the $2.5 billion ordered in 2007, leaving shares in Nokia to fall about 1.8 percent on the news. Analysts think that lower average handset prices account for at least a part of the lower order value, along with speculation that China Postel might roll deep with some additional orders later in the year. Here's the interesting part, though: the orders are apparently "framework agreements" which are totally commitment-free on both Nokia's and China Postel's parts, meaning that the $2 billion could vanish into thin air with no warning or explanation whatsoever. In fact, analysts can't even confirm whether last year's $2.5 billion worth of handsets was ever fulfilled. Wait, what's the point of these so-called framework agreements in the first place, then?

Haier's shiny Sterling handset gets official

Way back in January we were able to get our comparatively large palms around Haier's minuscule Elegance, and now the company's latest mirrored handset has gotten official with a pre-order price and release date. The oh-so-shiny Sterling brings back the bling factor in a serious way, and while it may look like there's no external display on this bad boy, we promise it's just an illusion. Underneath the facade resides a 1.8-inch color LCD, 1.3-megapixel camera, a pair of "music puzzle games," support for MP3, WMA, MP4, and AAC files, USB 2.0 connectivity, Bluetooth, 128MB of internal memory, a microSD card slot, and a battery capable of staying alive through three solid hours of yapping. Interestingly, you can plunk down a "non-refundable" deposit of $199 now in order to secure a position in line when it launches worldwide in July, but considering that there's no word on how much extra you will be billed upon shipment, we'd be mighty hesitant to pull the trigger just yet.
