iPhone nips at Rebel XTi's heels for most popular cam on Flickr

Yes, even the best cameraphones take crappy pictures by camera standards, but there's one thing phones will always have over their more optically-adept cousins: convenience. The fact that you always have your phone with you, it can often geotag, and it's got an always-on, always-available data connection for uploads to photo sharing sites are all factors giving handsets an edge in the fight to dominate Flickr. Add in the fact that we're approaching just-good-enough picture quality for everyday use on the upper end of the phone spectrum with the latest 5, 8, and 12 megapixel models, and, well... you've got a recipe for an upset. After briefly showing it having pulled ahead yesterday, Flickr's stats currently have the iPhone in all its flavors neck-and-neck with Canon's Digital Rebel XTi for upload popularity after a stark, sudden jump presumably spearheaded by the launch of the 3GS -- and given the trending we're seeing, it seems like it's just a matter of time before the iPhone pulls ahead for good. Granted, Flickr's pooling all iPhone models into a single stat, which isn't really fair -- philosophically, that's not much different from grouping every Digital Rebel together -- but the fact remains that this speaks volumes about the modern cameraphone's value as a serious photographic tool.

Flickr mobile photo uploader comes to BlackBerry

Not even a month after RIM let loose details on the forthcoming Media Sync application comes yet another piece of software sure to keep your thumbs even closer to your BlackBerry. Available now, the free Flickr mobile photo uploader enables BB owners to snap photos and easily upload 'em to their Flickr account -- something (almost) everyone else has been doing for quite some time. Heck, you can even slot an image in a given album, tag it and adjust its size right on your handset; if you're rocking a mobile with GPS, geotagging is an option, too. Tap the read link to get your download on.

Helio adds two-click YouTube, Flickr sharing

We imagine that one of the luxuries of being a small, scrappy carrier like Helio is that it's way easier to listen to PO'd customers and change corporate strategy on a dime than it is for any of the Big Four to do so. Besides changing its mind and opening up free, unrestricted access to YouTube -- a wise move, we must confess -- Helio has now officially announced that its recently-upgraded "Helio UP" media upload app can be used to post directly to YouTube and Flickr accounts. Oh yeah, and it's all free and it happens in two clicks -- so if you see a flood of phone cam-quality videos on your iPhone in the near future, they're probably coming from Oceans (either that, or you're making the fatal error of trying to use YouTube over EDGE).

Sony Ericsson cameraphones reign supreme at Flickr

Looks like our favorite photo sharing website Flickr is coming clean with the statistics of its most popular devices for its mobile upload service. Sony Ericsson has three of the top five spots with the K750 and K800 landing first and second. Now, we are as shocked as you are to see the Nokia N73 -- 3.2 megapixel camera and all -- coming up short on this one, especially considering that it supports Nokia's mobile Flickr app. With the 5 megapixel N95 coming out in the near future, we don't know how long Sony Ericsson will hold the crown

Flickr Uploader for Nokia N72 (and N70, N90)

With everything from 30 second sound clips to SMS messages stacking cost onto your bill, Nokia has gone against the grain by releasing software for their N72 (which supposedly also works for the N70 and N90) that allows users to immediately upload photos they take to Flickr. Sparse options include the ability to send downsized copies and choose images from the Gallery or Camera itself. The idea of uploading images from phone-to-web isn't exactly new, but official Flickr support has been all but impossible to come by, ZoneTag notwithstanding. Of course third party apps such as ShoZu have been accomplishing this for awhile and have more features, but regardless of which app serves the purpose more effectively, its a good sign when major phone manufacturers are taking strides in developing apps to increase the functionality of their phones without charging the users ridiculous pay-per-use fees. So if for no other reason than that, Nokia's Flickr Uploader, although seemingly a bit stifled by limitations, is certainly a step in the right direction.

S60 Flickr off!

You love Flickr, we love Flickr, Flickr's just great. But it's about time we figured out how the hell to moblog with it best, since we've all been using it for, well, what seems like forever. So if you've got a S60 phone and want a quick rundown of four of the more popular moblogging apps, including Shozu and ZoneTag, peep Chris Heathcote's Flickr off. Just try not taking too many pictures of your food, ok? We're getting like, way sick of that one.
