T-Mobile sending out early November event invites for Bold 2 launch?

We're not sure whether we'll see official PR before then, but it seems that T-Mobile is quietly slipping lucky individuals invites to "executive briefing" events for the upcoming Onyx / 9700 / Bold 2 to be held early next month. Boy Genius Report so far seems to have the inside line on a November 3 date in LA followed by November 5 in the Big Apple, and like pretty much everything else BlackBerry-related, "business casual" attire is suggested. Certainly seems to match up nicely with a November 11 retail launch, doesn't it?

Live from Motorola's Android announcement at Mobilize 09

We're at GigaOM's Mobilize conference today, where Motorola and CEO Sanjay Jha has come to reveal (or so we hope, anyway) its first volley of Android hardware -- hardware that could very well make or break the company. Follow the break for all the action live and in full color!

Video: Toshiba TG01 gets UK launch, we handle it again

It may have already been teased, poked and prodded, but the TG01 from Toshiba still insisted on making a big splash on its arrival to the UK and we were only too happy to oblige and join in on its launch event in London. As you should know by now, this is Toshiba's most significant attempt to date at penetrating the consumer smartphone market, and it's coming equipped with a battering ram named Snapdragon. Keep reading for the juicy details on the UI, construction and general feel, as well as a neat stash of images and videos of the phone in action.

HTC showing some new stuff in London on June 24

HTC's throwing itself a little party starting at 11:30AM local time in London on Wednesday, June 24, though it's not saying what sorts of goodies will be unveiled there. As you might recall, the Touch Diamond was unveiled at a similar event just over a year ago, so it's very likely an important product that's going to be shown; the odds-on favorite would have to be the HTC Hero and its customized Android-based interface, but at this point, it's anybody's guess.

Update: Here's an interesting clue -- that's a rose on the dude's chest, as in the Rosie interface. Get it, eh? Eh?

Sony Ericsson launching stuff on May 28

It seems that Sony Ericsson has lined up a shindig in London on May 28 to announce... well, something related to its Entertainment Unlimited multimedia strategy. It's unclear exactly what that'd be, but the company's been essentially mum on the Entertainment Unlimited-enabled Idou since its MWC unveiling earlier this year -- and we've established that an X1 follow-on is basically a lock at this point, so this could end up being a blockbuster event for the high end of the company's 2009 lineup. We'll know more soon enough.

T-Mobile announces April 21st "private launch event" in NYC

Well well well. Well. What do we have here? Apparently the cats and kittens over at T-Mobile have something special planned on Tuesday, April 21st. We've just gotten a very brief email letting us know that something was going down, but without any other detail. Obviously our gadget-alarms started clanging, and the way we see it we've only got a few things to get excited about. Will we see the launch of Cupcake? Could this be the official US unveiling of the Magic? Or perhaps we'll finally get to see the new Sidekick which just hit the FCC. Look -- anything is possible, but whatever happens, we'll be there. What do you guys think is in store?

Music-focused event on tap for Nokia this week

Hot on the heels of MWC, it seems Nokia's got another secret that it wants to get off its chest this week. Why the company didn't bundle this announcement with the MWC stuff is unclear -- but with the E55, E75, and N86 all unveiled in Barcelona, maybe they're just looking to give the new gear some spotlight time of its own. Actually, calling this "gear" might be overstepping -- for all we know, Nokia could simply be announcing new Comes With Music markets or something along those lines -- but naturally, our hearts and minds are always pining for new hardware. Look for this to go down at 10:00AM Central European Time on Wednesday the 11th, which works out to a bright 'n early 5AM for you New Yorkers, so bring plenty of coffee with the popcorn. Any good theories?

Sony Ericsson event rumored for tomorrow, W705 images emerge

Oh, goodie! SEMCBlog has it that Sony Ericsson is priming a fall announcement for tomorrow, the 6th of November. Certainly enough, it was this day last year when SE introduced a trio of new handsets, so we'd say the timing sounds just about perfect. Curious as to what's coming? A little birdie has dropped off signs that a W705 (pictured) will be the star of the show, with a Orange-exclusive W705u and a mysterious MBS-900 accessory tagging along. As for February-bound W705 slider, we're told it'll boast a 2.4-inch 320 x 240 resolution display, 3.2-megapixel camera, 120MB of internal memory, a 4GB M2 card (included), Walkman 3.0 UI, Shake control and two motifs to choose from (Luxury Silver and Passionate Red). All's that needed now is a dash of official and a pinch of expected pricing.

Verizon tours America with hands-on BlackBerry Storm events

Are you eager to get your paws around one of Verizon's much ballyhooed BlackBerry Storms? No, we mean are you really eager? If so, you can hit the read link (or just look at the image above, on second thought) and find the locale nearest you, pencil in a vacation day and get ready for the best few hours of your entire life. VZW will apparently be hitting the road in late October and into November in order to showcase its soon-to-be-flagship touchscreen phone, and it's even luring you harder with food and drinks on the house. Mmm, cookies and push e-mail.

HTC throwing UK bash on May 6 -- but what does it mean?

So HTC's holding down London on Tuesday, the 6th of May for some sort of product reveal that's presently cloaked in mystery. The invitation invites us to "witness the next wave of HTC Innovation," so it's gotta be good, right? One possibility is an unveiling of the Dream, the rumored device that hopes to usher in the Age of Android with a bang; we're not so sure, though, since the first production devices to run Google's everything-killer platform aren't expected until the second half and there's still plenty of work left to do on the software side. Another plausible launch would be the spiritual successor to the Touch, a device that may be either the Diamond or the Raphael; the 3G-less Touch is getting a little long in the tooth, after all, having been outdone in the spec sheet by its keyboarded cousins. We're guessing HTC's going to be staying pretty tight-lipped about this one right up until zero day, so let the speculation run wild in the meantime.

HTC to unveil Windows Mobile lineup at upcoming press event?

While Apple chose London to inform the world of the iPhone's international agenda, HTC is reportedly looking to make a few announcements of its own on that side of the pond. According to TheUnwired, HTC will hold two press events on the first two days in October, the first of which will be in the UK and the second in Germany. Best guesses suggest that we'll be learning a bit more about the firm's forthcoming Windows Mobile-based lineup, and we can only hope that the Kii, Omni and / or Polaris are part of the show -- but considering the location and all, we wouldn't bet the farm on hearing too much about the likely US-bound Juno. Hold tight kids, the events get going in under a week.

Steve Jobs in Berlin tomorrow, France on Thursday?

Now, we know how hot-under-the collar you guys get when we note El-Jobso's movements in Europe, but news is news, people. Just as speculated yesterday, it appears that the Apple honcho is working his way across Europe, moving nation-to-nation to spread the good word of iPhone wherever his New Balance touch ground. Not content with just launching the device in London for the O2 network, the company is taking this show on the road, traveling to Berlin on Wednesday where Jobs and his turtleneck will supposedly announce a partnership for the iPhone with T-Mobile. Expect EDGE, lots of screen touching, and Steve saying, "OH-, eine weitere Sache." Then, as we hear, it's off to France for some sightseeing. Just kidding... about the sightseeing.

[Thanks, Floris]

Is HTC's "major announcement" a multi-touch device?

The plot is starting to thicken ahead of HTC's press conference on the fifth of June -- and as we suggested before, it appears that the company does indeed have its sights set on stealing some of Apple's thunder. As far as consumer electronics releases go, the crown for the month of June had pretty much been handed to the iPhone; yeah, pretty much any Apple release is considered something of a landmark event, but one of the iPhone's big draws is its support for multi-touch. So what if HTC were to announce its own multi-touch device -- based on the lovely Elf -- just days before the iPhone's release? A little deflating for Apple, yeah? Smartphone Thoughts is reporting that HTC plans to introduce said device at its June 5th event with the intention of releasing it quickly on a global scale. Microsoft was showing off its "Shift" touch-based interface not long ago; while we don't know that the rumored HTC device uses it, this could all work out very nicely indeed considering the cozy relationship Microsoft and HTC enjoy.
