Far from being the first dual-mode handset we've seen (heck, it's not even the first WiMAX-friendly dualie), Qsida's recently showcased slider is still quite intriguing. The currently unnamed cellphone supports both 802.16e WiMAX as well as GSM / GPRS / EDGE networks, and just in case you're hankering for another way to get connected, there's a built-in WiFi module too. Reportedly, the smartphone is a test device used in the M-Taiwan initiative to promote WiMAX, and aside from handling voice calls via (almost) any flavor of wireless protocol, you'll also find Windows Mobile 6.1 running the show. Granted, this particular unit wasn't down with 3G, but a spokesperson was adamant that such a handset would be added to its portfolio eventually.

Tough time to try to hype a new skin for Windows Mobile, we'd say, what with juggernauts HTC and Sony Ericsson both trying to knock balls out of the park with TouchFLO 3D and the XPERIA's shell, respectively; that's not stopping ASUS from giving it a go, though. The Taiwanese manufacturer has chosen Computex as the stage to officially take the wraps off its "Glide" UI concept, the first shot of which we saw in the leaked shots of the P560 a few weeks back. Features of the shell include ASUS Today, a home screen replacement; Anytime Launcher, a straight-up app launcher; EziPhoto for photo management and EziMusic for a glorified media player. Nothing too groundbreaking here, but hey, can't blame 'em for trying to keep up with the Joneses.

Mio's got quite the interesting duo set up at Computex: the Windows Mobile 6.1-packin' G50 and the two-faced LEAP K1. As for the former, you may know it better as the Lovebird, but it seems a more corporately accepted monicker was chosen at the last minute for the quad-band GSM handset. As for the latter, this mysterious creature actually has two faces to fondle -- one of which packs a traditional numeric keypad, while the other features an expansive panel perfect for serving up routes. Look out, Bluetooth -- Ozmo Devices has its eyes set squarely on you. Okay, so maybe this whole thing isn't as adversarial as advertised, but there's no denying that the aforesaid company's latest initiative will target the exact same devices that BT is embedded within now. Ozmo has announced a partnership with Intel at Computex that will extend the latter company's Cliffside WiFi Personal Area Network (PAN) technology to "low-power devices." Essentially, WiFi radios that suck less juice nowadays would take on dual roles -- accessing WLAN networks and doing the duties typically reserved for Bluetooth -- which would enable devices to have one less component stuffed within bulking things up. As of now, there's been no takers on the design, but word on the street has Belkin already testing the approach out for kicks and giggles (or maybe something way more serious).

Actually, E-TEN's saying they're showing four new models here, but we've been aware of E-TEN's glofiish quad-band V900 for some time now, leaving three all-new Windows Mobile 6.1 smartphones on display at Computex this week. The DX900 is a dual-SIM smartphone for those on multiple carriers and comes in a form factor very similar to the aforementioned mobile TV-friendly V900. Meanwhile, the X900 is a quad-band GSM handset with HSDPA and is a basic upgrade to the X800 with Windows Mobile 6.1 and a tweaked UI. Finally, the X610 -- an update to the X600 -- also runs WinMo 6.1 and a similarly-updated interface.

We can't help but notice that the ASUS V90 does seem to steal a few design cues from its J502 sibling, but rather than hiding its numeric pad underneath the sliding screen, the V90 shows it all with no sliding motions required. Unfortunately, there's not too many details on this one at the moment, but a snapshot of the device taken at Computex shows off its thinness and two-inch TFT display, and it purportedly includes a three-megapixel camera as well. Thankfully, we won't have to wait too terribly long for this one to arrive, as at least some parts of the globe should receive shipments by Q4 of this year.

Shown recently at Taiwan's Computex shindig, the g-Smart i350 appears to be the most incremental of upgrades to its i300 predecessor, especially in light of the fact that the i300's been signed up to get a Windows Mobile 6 upgrade. Both rock a 2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, 802.11b/g, and integrated GPS, so it seems like the biggest boost for the i350 might be the move from a 2.4 inch QVGA to 2.6 inch VGA display (okay, we admit, that's a pretty big difference) and the addition of a fourth band of GSM support. We're not sure we're feeling the handset's sparkly white exterior, but we suspect it's one of those things you have to see in person before passing judgment.

Not too many details on this one just yet, but Inventec was apparently showing off the Okwap-built K871 at Computex, and aside from boasting a slideout QWERTY keyboard and a standard number pad, it also comes loaded with the latest version of Windows Mobile. Additionally, the smartphone packs a three-megapixel camera with auto focus, a few handy hotkeys surrounding the number pad, built-in 802.11b/g WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, USB 2.0 connectivity, and the ability to hop on the 3G highway via HSDPA. Still looks a little thick for our tastes, but feel free to click through for a couple more shots from the show floor.

Gigabyte is showing off two new Windows Mobile 5.0 smartphones at Computex in Taiwan this week, the g-Smart i120 and g-Smart i300. The i300 appears to be a slightly modified version of what was previously just known as the g-Smart i, a tri-band device (no EDGE, sadly), packing 64MB of RAM, 256MB of ROM, 802.11g, Bluetooth 2.0, GPS, a 2 megapixel camera, 2.4-inch QVGA screen, as well as a MiniSD slot and an FM tuner; what's not clear if it supports the same crazy rabbit ears for TV reception as the other g-Smart we saw a couple of months ago. The i120 takes a different approach, featuring a built-in keypad, but the specs are pretty similar otherwise, with tri-band GSM (900 / 1800 / 1900) and GPRS, 64MB RAM, 256MB ROM, 802.11g, Bluetooth (just 1.2 on this one), infrared, a 2.4-inch QVGA display, 2 megapixel camera, and, it seems, a TV tuner in addition to the FM (no evidence of rabbit ears though). We've gotta hand it to AnexTEK, not only are they keepin' it real fake with their new moboDA 3380 and 3160 smartphones, they're showing off their "designs" at a major tradeshow, Computex, where they may well run into a few companies who can be forgiven for thinking that AnexTEK's been swiping things from their booths when they weren't looking. The 3380 (which bears more than a passing resemblance to BenQ's P51), is the more capable of the two, with built-in WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, a 2 megapixel camera, and a speedy Intel PXA270 520 MHz processor. As you can see, it also has a full QWERTY keyboard. The 3160 (taking cues from HP's RW6828, itself an XDA Atom rebadge), lacks a keyboard and packs a slightly slower Intel PXA270 416 MHz processor, along with a 1.3 megapixel camera, and integrated WiFi and Bluetooth 1.2. No word on price, and (surpise!) they're not likely to be available outside of Taiwan anytime soon.
