NTT DoCoMo's Mobile World Congress 2008 booth tour

Amid all the glittery stuff that is MWC, NTT DoCoMo has set up shop to show some of the stuff we will never have. Mobile gaming -- real gaming, not dodgy stuff -- mobile TV, waterproof sets, super-thin handsets, and a whole lot more was on display. After we wiped the silly grins off our faces, we remembered that pics were the order of the day so we took a good pile for your enjoyment. Follow the link for a whole gallery full of what we like to call: waytoomanythinhotclamshellstodealwith.

RIM's CES 2008 booth tour

No matter where we go, RIM seems to have this same booth style where all the good stuff (the phones, that is) are stuffed in a central nucleus, causing massive crowding. Don't get us wrong, it's entirely possible that's the effect RIM is shooting for, but heaven help us poor journalists try to get a shot of the goods contained within. The Canadian manufacturer didn't have any earth-shattering announcements for the show -- just a couple of new 8130 colors -- so the highlight has to be the giant Pearl that was harassing passers-by. Check out Engadget for the visuals!

UTStarcom's CES 2008 booth tour

In terms of layout, UTStarcom's booth is close to a dead ringer for its showing at last year's CES; just the promos and handsets have changed, basically. The darlings of the show have to be the HSM180, an absolutely bizarre HSDPA candybar featuring two circles for a keypad, and the TXT8010, a QWERTY slider with an attitude for CDMA networks. Check 'em out, yo.

Nokia's CES 2008 booth tour on Engadget!

Although the outer dimensions remain unchanged, Nokia's CES booth is considerably larger in usable square footage this year compared to last because some of its private meeting space has been jettisoned to a location elsewhere in the convention. They've used the extra space well, too; in addition to several areas where passers-by can handle the latest phones, there's a long, wrapping counter for demoing what Nokia calls its "experiences" -- things like the Music Store, for example. Check out all the pretty colors in the gallery over on Engadget!

Sony Ericsson booth tour

To call our tour of Sony Ericsson's booth at CES a "booth tour" is giving it entirely too much credit; for some reason, the world's fourth-largest manufacturer of mobile phones was relegated to a single meager kiosk within Sony's sprawling grounds (along with a handful of tie-ins with other Sony products strewn about elsewhere). Highlights included the ultra-glossy, ultra-colorful Z310 clamshell, the MBR-100 A2DP music receiver, and some much-needed quality time with the recently intro'd MBW-100 watch. Sadly, the W880 "Ai" wasn't on hand, but that gives us something to look forward to, right?

Nokia booth tour

Nokia had a strong showing at this year's CES, coming to the table with the N800 Internet Tablet, the N93i, and the svelte, totally unexpected N76. Our favorite part, though, might have been the NFC demo -- Nokia really went all out to demo the capabilities of its 6131 NFC by showing movie posters, picture frames, and payment systems using the system. Heck, even the booth's inhabitants were tagged with their contact info.

Live from CTIA: World's best Samsung booth

It's quite refreshing to see so many "World's ____s" at Samsung's booth. This time we've got the World's First 10 Megapixel Cameraphone, the World's Best HSDPA Handset, and the World's First Mobile WiMAX rig. We got hands ons with their new T509 slimphone, B600 10 megapixel cameraphone, their 8GB i310, S4300 musicphone, Z540 Vodafone phone (which happens to remind one a little much of the V3x), the Z510,  D520 slim slider, Cingular's forthcoming D407, and, of course, some Samsung execs shooting the breeze about their devices.

Live from CTIA: Moto goes modern

Motorola usually has a pretty nice booth, but this CTIA they've injected a couple extra ounces of fancy, being they didn't have a whole lot of new gear to show off this time around. The PEBL amongst pebbles gag got a little old, but they needed to (and did) step up their booth's aesthetic. And you know when we start going on and on about booth aesthetics, we're pretty tapped for some news, so check out the CTIA eye candy after the break.
