When Verizon passed on the iPhone, was it a bad business decision or was it a part of a much larger idea for The Network to bring a next-generation music device to market? Enter Motorola and what is being described as an "iPhone Killer" by employees of both companies. Code named the "M" and designed for the mediacentric user, it's likely to impress (if they really want to kill the iPhone, anyway). Details are on the slim side, but reports suggest a 3 megapixel shooter with a large QVGA display and lots of internal storage. In addition to the M, word is that LG is preparing a CDMA version of the popular -- but -- expensive KE850 (aka Prada) for release sometime in the 3rd quarter (this one's also a potential iPhone nemesis, if you ask us). Make sure you keep a lookout for more deets!
There appears to be light at the end of the proverbial dark tunnel for customers of Verizon Wireless -- non-business channel ones, anyway -- who attempt to satisfy their "Crackberry" addiction. Sources suggest that The Network should be ramping up for consumer launch of the globe trottin' BlackBerry 8830 for Monday May 28. Yep, that's only a few short days from now. Better start saving those pennies now, especially at the $400.00 price with a two year contract..
Just when we're down in the dumps about our 'Berry, here's some good news that should brighten up the day. New intel suggests that Verizon is planning to release the BlackBerry 8830 (aka Cyclone) on May 14 for the business channel and May 29 for consumers. A couple other bits of information as well: there's support for microSD cards up to the standard 2GB, and the media player supposedly supports -- get this -- iTunes music. Check out an additional pic (fuzzy, but helpful, we promise) after the break.
We didn't think Sprint would have the spotlight with the latest CDMA Treo for long, and it turns out we were right. Our pal HTC Kid over at Verizon tells us that the new #1 is planning to release its own Treo 755p variant shortly. Feature lineup appears to be similar (except possibly some LBS), but for the forgetful among us, we'll give them to you again -- dual-band CDMA with EV-DO Rev. A, a 1.3 megapixel shooter, and what appears to be a sleeker, refined look a la Treo 680. Make sure you stay tuned for more details.
There's no doubt that The Network gives its customers plenty of options, especially when it comes to traveling across the pond -- and the latest addition to its ExpressCard lineup is no exception. Enter the Merlin XU870, which rocks triband 850 / 1900 / 2100MHz HSDPA and quadband EDGE and GPRS support. Yes, that's right, this is a GSM piece meant exclusively for Verizon's global roamers. The XU870 is expected to support Windows, Apple, and Linux operating systems and is expected to cost $370 with no contract, $299 with a one year contract and $249 on a two year
Being with the nation's largest CDMA carrier certainly has its advantages -- especially when it includes one of the country's largest mobile to mobile communites, VCAST TV, and unlimited text, pix, and flix. Yep, that's right: unlimited. Initial reports are stating that on April 15th, Verizon will come out with new plans that include unlimited messaging. It appears that the single line plans cost about $20 more and family share plans start at $99.99 for 700 minutes. Be on the lookout for more details!
Are you tired of seeking out third-party nav applications for your Palm 700wx or Motorola Q? We hear you on that -- and it turns out Verizon does, too. Word has it that The Network is testing navigation service for PDA devices (a la VZW Navigator for dumbphones) and it should be available some time in the third quarter of this year. For everyone's sake, let's just hope it's made to support new and old devices alike.

It looks like The Network has more tricks up their sleeves; too bad one of those wouldn't be launching their hi-speed data network, however beggars can't be choosers. Enter in the latest addition to Verizon's expanding lineup of Rev. A Aircards, the Novatel MCD3000. It supports speeds up to 3.1 mbps through its small flip up antenna, USB 2.0, and is backwards compatible with Rev. 0. The manufacture states that it supports Vista, XP, 2000 and Mac OS X, so the bases are covered from the operating system standpoint. One of our favorite tipsters, HTC Kid, says it's going to be available in the very near future -- so stay tuned for pricing details and launch date!
