Is this Sony Ericsson's P5 or "Paris"?

Ahhh, Sony Ericsson rumors begin to swirl just as CTIA is getting set to close up shop for another year, and if you believe 'em, the P5 or "Paris" is just around the corner. We have to admit, while pretty, the pic of this little slider does look a bit sketchy -- specially the screen -- but we've heard rumblings about similar sets for long enough we can at least take a moment to hope. Apparently featuring UIQ 3.3, the P5 is rumored to be set for official launch in May with release date set for fall. Of course, Sony Ericsson is well known for slipping the dates in a big way, so we'll just lay back and wait to see what's what.

New Sony Ericsson handsets looming?

We aren't insinuating that you should attach any level of truth to these rumors just yet, but the boards of Esato are alive with murmurs of a few new SE handsets that could be launched as early as tomorrow. Amongst the mobiles that we could hear more about (officially) in the coming day is the Cyber-shot-branded "Victoria" -- which will supposedly be 14-millimeters thick and sport a 1.9-inch QVGA screen, five color options, and a 128MB M2 card bundled in -- and the still elusive "Veronica." Additionally, we could also be treated to the W350, a Cyber-shot clamshell / Cyber-shot slider, and new "accessories" to boot. Best of all, though, is that you've just a single day left to find out if there's actually any substance to these whispers, but if it does prove true, it certainly won't be the first time.

Sony Ericsson P1 hits eBay, Expansys says eight days

Well the long wait -- for those that were waiting, that is -- is over, the P1, that we also followed as the P700i has arrived. The price is hovering in the $600 range on eBay, with the Expansys UK price sitting at about $800 after conversion. We've seen it reviewed and are hoping that it will live up to the hype being slathered on it by the Sony Ericsson community. Still the lack of any decent connectivity options for North America -- no HSDPA, no EDGE -- and without any hints of a version for these shores, has really dampened our enthusiasm. A P1a would be so welcome right about now, OK SE?

Skype coming for UIQ 3?

If you believe everything you read, then the long-rumored Skype for UIQ may well be en route. Sony Ericsson's recently announced P1 may have let the Skype out of the bag with its whitepaper mention of "Skype – Voice over IP application that lets the user make mobile phone calls over the Internet." While this could be a typo, we're thinking (and hoping) that an announcement may be just around then bend. If you are in the know and can help debunk or substantiate the rumor, drop us a line.

Sony Ericsson P1 gets reviewed

Well, that didn't take long; GSM Arena has already had the opportunity to put the just-announced Sony Ericsson P1 -- or a preproduction version of it, anyway -- through a thorough battery of tests. The good news is that they appear to have concluded that it's the best Sony Ericsson (and likely the best UIQ) smartphone to date, but the very (very) bad news is that the QWERTY keyboard is described as "half-QWERTY, half-TORTURE." The 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera appears to produce admirable pictures, the WiFi support is said to be great, and the version of UIQ loaded on the P1 seems the most refined around. But man, a torturous keyboard? Sounds like a deal-breaker to us, especially considering that it lacks EDGE data (but has UMTS... seriously, Sony Ericsson, what's that all about?) and GSM 850.

Sony Ericsson opens the gates with headset, 3 more handsets

We thought they might be done after the S500 announcement, but it would appear that Sony Ericsson wanted to torment us with a series of new devices -- none with 3G love for over here, naturally. First off we have the P1 (née the P700i) which is a tri-band Euro-UMTS jobby (that's 2100 MHz) with a touchscreen, QWERTY keyboard, and push mail in both Microsoft and BlackBerry flavors. Next up, the T250 which is an intro level candybar style phone with a VGA camera and FM radio that will arrive in two different versions, with a 850 / 1900 likely being aimed at the US market. Also on the roster is the T650, yet another tri-band handset with 2100 MHz UMTS, a 3.2 megapixel camera, stereo Bluetooth. Finally -- something that is useful the world over -- the HBH-DS980 stereo Bluetooth headset. It seems this new set is mostly a cosmetic upgrade from the DS970, with the same reflective treatment as the Z610i, 6 hours talk time or music time, and an OLED display that is hidden by the units reflective finish until it is powered on. Very little else here, folks (aside from some pretty bitter disappointment at getting 3G-snubbed yet again), but as soon as we get some decent pics and specs, you know you will find them right here.
