Alltel says 'yo, have five more My Circle numbers on us'

If you're on a My Circle 10 or 20 plan through Alltel right now, guess what? You aren't anymore. Don't worry, though -- that's a good thing, because the carrier is upping your allowances by five numbers each at no additional charge. In other words, your My Circle 10 is now a My Circle 15, and your My Circle 20 (you big spender, you) is now a My Circle 25. Go crazy, add in your great aunt. You owe her a call anyway.

It was the number one concern of about-to-be-swallowed Alltel customers going into this merger deal, and now it's finally time for those individuals to breathe a huge sigh of relief. In a prime example of great decision making, the suits at Big Red have decided to not only allow ex-Alltel subscribers to keep their My Circle plans, but it's bringing the circle to "current and future customers [read: both VZW and Alltel] as a flexible way to control wireless spending." The news was shot out this morning in a message to employees (posted in full after the break), though there's no word on when Verizon Wireless customers can look forward to enjoying 5, 10 or 20 numbers of free calling each month. So, AT&T -- now that you're cornered between myFaves and My Circle, what's the reaction going to be?

Alltel adds messaging to My Circle

This ain't your grandpappy's My Circle. Well, actually, it pretty much is, with one small change: customers signing up for a My Circle messaging plan of $7.99 or higher on Alltel will now get unlimited messaging within their Circle, while the non-Circle bucket starts at 400 per month. The $19.99 "All Access Pass" is still available too, which rocks unlimited messaging to everyone regardless of whether they're cool enough to be in your Circle -- and it includes mobile web access, to boot. The new plans are available immediately.

Verizon Wireless brings My Circle-esque plan to Business subscribers

From the moment Verizon Wireless made its intentions to purchase Alltel official, subscribers of the latter began wondering what the fate of My Circle would be. As it stands, there's still no definitive answer on that topic, but VZW is introducing a new feature for its Business users that bears a striking resemblance to Alltel's current merry-go-round. The plan, which is only available to customers of the Verizon Freedom for Business unlimited long-distance service, enables users to have unlimited conversations with five chosen numbers for $4.99 per month. Sadly, we haven't a clue whether the carrier is planning to roll a similar option out to its non-enterprise users, but the timing here is certainly curious, wouldn't you agree?

Alltel expands My Circle with 5, 20 person offerings

T-Mobile's myFaves and Alltel's My Circle unlimited calling schemes seem to be doing pretty well for the carriers -- so well, in fact, that Alltel's adding a couple new versions of My Circle to its stable. The current version -- which allows users to select ten unlimited contacts on plans of $59.99 and higher -- remains, while new My Circle 5 and My Circle 20 add-ons can be applied to plans of $49.99 and $99.99 or higher, respectively. Needless to say, My Circle 5 knocks it down to five selections, while My Circle 20 ups it to twenty. The new offerings are available starting today.

Alltel -- the self-dubbed "America's largest network" -- is playing nice with a whole host of annoying mobile network spokespeople with their new Alltelcircle service. Mobile users represented by Catherine Zeta Jones, that "can you hear me now?" guy, Sprint's Mr. Trenchcoat Man, and Cingular's bouncy orange mascot, can all be included in your "Circle" of ten friends. Once a phone number is added, you can make and receive unlimited calls with that person, which gives you one less excuse for not calling your mother every day. Of course, you'll need a rate plan of $59.99 or higher to qualify for My Circle, but once you sign up you can switch up your My Circle members at any time through your online account.
