Following in the footsteps of other manufacturers, Nokia has raided the proverbial crayon box and released new shades for the E61i and E65. First up, the E61i gets painted a rich "Titanium Black" color -- possibly the nicest looking color on the QWERTY smartphone -- and the E65 gets redone in both pink and plum colors. There's no sign that the new shades will be coming stateside anytime soon, but they should be easy enough to import.

Americans looking for a little piece of the Nokia Eseries pie just had their task made a little easier today, with Nokia announcing that the QWERTY equipped E61i and E65 slider have been officially released this side of the pond. Besides showing up in the Chicago and New York flagship stores, the devices will be provided through a handful of B2B distributors, Dell's site, Gateway, Mobile Planet, and others. We're still crossing fingers, toes, and a variety of other limbs in the hopes of an eventual E90 release here, but these two are certainly decent fodder in the meanwhile. Look for both to run about $400.

In a welcome, yet odd, development, Dell has started selling several high-end Nokia phones in an unlocked state via its online store. So far searches reveal that Dell is selling the Nokia N80, E61i, and E61 for around $400, and the N95 for $732. Those prices don't sound too great when compared to in-contract prices, but compared to similar unlocked offerings from high street stores they're pretty damn competitive. Besides, it doesn't look as if Dell is partnering with any mobile operators, and is instead highlighting the unlocked prices. Unlocked cellphone price war, anyone? If Dell's in the game, then you can bet that others will join.

We knew it would only be a matter of time before a Symbian fanatic would be brave enough to dissect one of Nokia's newest additions to the line-up, the E61i. Each picture shows the dismembering of the QWERTY device piece by piece. If you have a weak stomach or can't stand the sight of unprotected hardware, tread lightly. If you were / are a Nokia E61 fan but wished those Finns would have refined it just a bit, you're probably salivating over the E61i. Updates to the newer model include a 2 megapixel cam, a d-pad (no joystick) and a better QWERTY keyboard for your typing pleasure. If you're wanting to see a svelte E61i get undressed, it's been done to a decent degree for your viewing pleasure. That is, until you plunk down some cash for the real deal, right?

We had only a few brief, fleeing moments with Nokia's new powerhouse E90 mega mobile communicator, but it should come as no surprise that we liked what we saw -- a lot. Sure, it's a little mammoth, kind of like two phones sandwiched together -- but that's the price you pay for real ultimate power. Oh yeah, we saw the E61i, too -- not a whole lot going on there, we're all pretty well familiar with how that one goes, having seen and used the E61.

We knew they were coming and now, finally, Nokia went and blessed their quad-band GSM / UMTS / WiFi totin' E61i and E65 official. The E65 is the first slider to drop as an E-series business device. Although the styling is a bit flash for an E, this slider is designed with suits in mind so it'll integrate just fine with your corporate telephony system. The E61i (pictured) also integrates with your corporate email system -- as you'd expect from QWERTY-based E -- and adds a 2 megpapixel camera to the mix as well as an enhanced keyboard which includes new NAVI and "One Touch" keys. Both the E65 and E61i feature Nokia's new Intellisync Mobile Suite 8.0 platform which, according to Nokia, allows businesses to "achieve new levels of productivity and competitive advantage." We'll just have to wait and see about that. The E65 is already available in select markets while the E61i won't pop until Q2 -- both S60 devices will demand an unsubsidized price of about €400. The QWERTY device market is perhaps hotter now than it's ever been before (and that's saying a lot); far be it from Nokia to let good ol' Symbian get left out of the party. The E61i -- which we've now seen plenty of ahead of its official unveiling -- has cleared the FCC, and while we're certainly not taking that to mean it'll bring any 3G bands us yanks can use (what a novel concept!), we take this to be a good sign that we'll all be able to head down to our friendly local Nokia flagship store and pick one up for quadband GSM / EDGE use. As a refresher, the E61i picks up where the E61 and E62 left off, adding a cam and microSD expansion (so we hear) -- but let's be honest, in the year 2007, it's probably gonna take some UMTS to catch much love.

Not a whole lot more info than we had last time around -- in fact, zero more info for anyone keeping track -- but we haven't managed to get close to the E61i before now. No real surprises here, and this is just a dummy unit, so we don't even have any screen brightness to assess, but hey, beggers can't be choosers, and those additional smart buttons and spiced up d-pad look promising, even if the phone for the most part seems relatively unchanged. We'd already seen some shots slip of what we'd then identified as the E62i, but thanks to sharp eyes over at All About Symbian poring over Nokia's user agent profile list, it sounds like the E61 / E62's successor may ultimately come to be known simply as the E61i. That little tidbit of information isn't terribly interesting in and of itself -- they can call it "Espoo" for all we care -- but the profiles also reveal a few key specs that the Nokia (and QWERTY) fanboys among us will be happy to hear. First up, the E61i will come in two variants, one with 3G data and one without, suggesting that the latter might succeed the E62 in American markets while the former will carry the torch in Europe. It'll also make a switch from miniSD to microSD expansion and add a camera -- possibly bad news for those corporate suit types whose business don't allow shutterbugs on the premises. Also revealed is the E65, a phone we've never seen, though All About Symbian suggests it may be a slider (a la N80). Specs include a QVGA display, 3G data, microSD expansion, WiFi, and a camera. Neither phone is listed as running Nokia's latest S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1 (which seems odd for any new S60 goodies in the pipeline) which means that A2DP probably isn't in the cards and the aforementioned 3G radios will likely top out with UMTS, not HSDPA. Be that as it may, we're not going to draw any premature conclusions and let rampant speculation get the best of us, but the sooner you could officially reveal these, the better -- mkay, Nokia?
