Nokia's N95 8GB sees update to v31.0.015

Nokia's N95 8GB just got updated to v31.0.015, and if you're a proud owner of this here handset, we'd recommend you give it a look. The full ROM weighs in at around 130MB, and some of the changes include the closing of the SDK security "hack" for jailbreaking personal devices, minor bug fixes / cosmetic improvements of the undisclosed variety, photo quality improvements and better browsing stability. Per usual, we'd recommend backing everything up before passing the point of no return, but feel free to chime in below once you've seen the so-called improvements.

N95 8GB gets hooked up with firmware v30, too -- just two more N95s to go

That delightful little gift to original N95 owners in the form of firmware v30 has now spread to the European-spec N95 8GB, too, offering better battery life (allegedly), a new Flash Lite client, upgraded media player, "enablers" for Comes With Music (sounds promising), and a host of other tweaks that make the N95 better than ever. In fact, it might have some N95-1 and N95-2 owners saying "N96 who?" -- but North American N95-3 and N95-4 owners, as usual, might let their eyes wander toward the newer piece anyway since there's no indication when they'll be seeing the upgrade.

8GB Nokia N95 lands on Rogers, sticks tongue out at AT&T

Get this: the first North American carrier to offer up Nokia's 8GB N95 isn't AT&T. Heck, it's not even a US-based operator. No friends, it's Canada's own Rogers Wireless. Just as we had heard late last month, the N95 8GB has officially landed in the Great North, and starting on May 6th, consumers up that way will be able to secure one for a hefty $399.99 with a three-year activation on the Rogers Vision Unlimited On-Device Mobile Browsing Plan. Don't weep too heavily, AT&T users -- your time should be coming soon.

Cheapo refurbished iPhones for sale online from AT&T

Remember those dirt-cheap refurbished iPhones we mentioned you could snag in-store? Well it looks like AT&T has decided to share the bounty with the public at large, and has begun taking orders for the $249 8GB models online. If you've been on the fence, here's your chance to get in for $150 less than retail (and sadly for you early adopters, a whopping $350 tumble in price). In our experience, you can grab one in person with no activation, though it looks like you'll have to sign on the dotted line to have it delivered.

Update: According to our commenters, you can get these mailed to you activation / contract free.

Nokia's N95 8GB brings more chunk for your junk

As it so often goes in this business, the adrenaline rush of a good leaked image is quickly followed by the security felt from an official press release. And so it goes... meet the 8GB Nokia N95, all in black and all official. Feels good eh? We're still talking N95 specs -- 2.8-inch display, 5 megapixel camera, WiFi, GPS, microSD, and such -- only now with a hefty slab of hot, hot flash for all your media. Sure, slim is in but we can love a fatty too. Europe-first and ready for action in October for €560/$761.

Nokia's 8GB N95 photographed in the wild

Unfortunately, we've no new details surrounding this elusive handset, but a few more pictures never hurt anyone. Go on, click through for a couple more glimpses at the 8GB N95 getting cozy beside a few of its soon-to-be rivals.

Nokia's 8GB N95 confirmed for Q4 release?

Not a whole lot of new information here, but we're starting hear that the 8GB N95 that was mentioned just days ago as a potential device will in fact become a reality. Unfortunately, we're still forced to treat this "confirmation" as a rumor until Nokia fesses up to the pictured device, but if whispers prove true, it should hit outlets "shortly after Christmas," will be black in color, tout 8GB of internal capacity, and sport a slightly larger screen for good measure. Hold tight -- we're sure a confirmation (or vehement denial) will be just around the bend.

Nokia planning 8GB N95?

Per usual, we're taking this one with a throw of salt for the time being, but an interesting couple of lines from an .xml file on Nokia's site actually makes mention of an 8GB N95. Stepping back, it does indeed follow logic that Nokia would think of unveiling an 8GB handset in order to more directly compete with its newfound rivals, but until we see something more detailed than a few lines of stray code, we'll reserve judgment. So, regretting that oh-so-fresh N95 purchase yet?

Samsung develops 8GB microSD card

Wow, it seems like we were just marveling over the introduction of the world's first 8GB SD card a few moons back. Ah, that's right, we were. Alas, Samsung took it to heart that SD doesn't cut it for your average cellphone (they run a bumpin' mobile business, after all), announcing that it has managed to pack a full eight gigabytes into the microSD form factor for mid-2008 production. That's particularly timely considering that 4GB examples haven't even gotten into widespread circulation yet -- "8GB" just has a nicer ring to it -- not to mention that the new card handily surpasses SDHC guidelines with 16MB/s reads and 6MB/s writes. For the record, a microSD card rocks a little over 20 percent of the surface area of its SD counterpart, so does this mean we can expect 40GB SD cards, like, now? Not quite.

Nokia bumps the stakes to 8GB on their N91

The HDD-based, music playin' N91 might've been panned by the critics, but a 4GB musicphone still isn't nothing to scoff at, and now the phone is doubling up the memory with 8GB, for even less scoffing opportunity. It's also been spiffed up in a slimming black -- this phone needs all the slimming it can get -- and now features A2DP support for some much-needed stereo Bluetooth action, but otherwise remains the same old clunker with a heart of gold. The good news is that Nokia has beefed up the software support with their new "Music Range" phones, so things should be a bit more enjoyable on that front. As for price, you're looking at a hefty 550 euros ($700 US), the same as Nokia's new N95 awesomephone, and a release date sometime before the end of the year. Once again, head on over to Engadget for the jumbo pics.

Samsung division CEO bans SGH-B570 8GB musicphones

We've heard stories about companies banning the use of certain kinds of products, such as cameraphones or digital audio players, since they could potentially be used to snap pics of or download classified info. But in what must be a first-of-its-kind case, Samsung has actually banned employees from using one of the company's own products out of industrial espionage fears. Ki-Tae Lee, CEO of  Samsung Electronics Telecommunications Network, has apparently warned employees not to pick up the company's SGH-B570 cellphones, because the music-playing phone's 8GB capacity "is more than enough to steal all confidential data about our company." No word yet as to whether Lee is also banning Samsung's various thumbdrives, USB hard drives and audio players, which can also be used to slurp company data. Also, we have to admit to being just a little disappointed that all of the company's confidential data can fit on a single 8GB cellphone. What does that say about Samsung's R&D capabilities?
