Motorola still in the red, no light at the end of the tunnel yet {Engadget Mobile}

Jan 28th 2008 4:14AM "Moto pushed 40.9 million of them in the quarter -- with 53 percent sold in North America"

It's interesting that the US is Motorola's biggest handset market, yet all their cool new phones (such as the models reported on this fine site) are available to Asian markets first before making their way to the states, if at all. I'm not sure why this is, perhaps because Moto wants to field test their products in smaller markets before delivering them to American consumers, but I'm not sure that is a strategy that is necessary (look at Apple).

Palm's Ed Colligan responds to our open letter! {Engadget Mobile}

Aug 24th 2007 8:49AM I read the response from Palm. I'd like to know what points they disagree with you on, and what crack are they on -- "it is very early in the evolution of the smartphone and there is enormous opportunity for us to innovate. We have only just begun to fight!" This statement would have been true 7 years ago, maybe...

Dear Palm: It's time for an intervention {Engadget}

Aug 24th 2007 7:32AM Great article guys, kudos!

Old school here and still rockin' on my Palm IIIx and Palm Desktop 4.0.1. I've been wanting a new PDA/phone combo device for years now, but I'm still waiting for a worthy successor. I don't want a Windows device because 1) I don't want to synch to Outlook (plus I prefer to keep my personal and work stuff separate), and 2) I *like* the Palm calendar & contact functionality (they're simplistic but user friendly, although I am starting to use Google calendar more these days so it'd be nice if my next PDA/smartphone could synch to it). The screens on the Treos are too small for my taste; I'm partial to the larger screen on my Palm IIIx and actually prefer graffiti over a physical keyboard (not to mention I'm a Dvorak keyboard user so I generally despise any device with QWERTY keys that can't be remapped).

Perhaps I'm in the minority, but judging by the responses here, maybe not. I checked out the Palm web site after reading this article, and it's sad, sad, sad! I thought the Foleo stories here were a joke, and never took them seriously, but WTF? As an active, busy professional, I'm looking to *reduce* the number of devices I need to carry, not more. It's bad enough that I have to carry personal and work cell phones, and the laptop when I am on call. Who wants to haul around a subnotebook device that *only* does email?! Upper management execs who don't do anything other than answer emails all day long? If so, the buyer list for this thing is going to be pretty short. I'll get a UMPC if I need to carry around another device, no thanks Foleo.
