Sep 24th 2009 2:46PM Why is that worth the money? $250 (basically, when you add it all up) for a GPS in car that takes away my ability to make calls? Hrm. Why does it make sense to do that when there are lots of TomTom products with hardware and software for that and less, but that won't tie up my phone whenever I'm being navigated? Doesn't make any sense.

How would you change Apple's iPhone 3GS? {Engadget}
Aug 1st 2009 10:45AM The ONLY reason I upgraded was because I actually made money doing, just like the first gen to second. I sell mine on CL for $250, walk into store and get my upgrade price of $215 or so with tax. Done deal, some T-Mobile customer is very happy and I get new phone.
As for the update to the 3GS. Blah. I'm not super thrilled with video and hadn't really noticed that my 3G was slow until Apple was so kind as to point it out. What else do I really get that I can't get on a 3G with a software upgrade?
I see a lot of blue sky lists above... but there are some BASIC things that would make me a very happy camper - and they are only software tweaks:
1. FLASH SUPPORT!!! How the heck do you claim to have desktop level browsing on the phone if most enterprise level sites won't load because of lack of Flash support? This is as ridiculous as leaving MMS out, or at the beginning when SMS forwarding and group messages were left out... I don't understand why Apple insists on leaving simple things out that make them less competitive.
2. Visual customization. Even dumbphones have themes and customization options. It's crazy that you have to jailbreak to turn the background from boring black to a picture of sweet little Johnnie's first ice cream cone. And what about having control of what native icons are there too while we're at it.
3. Lets talk about text message sounds. I'm so friggen tired, after 2+ years, of 'glass'. It's the only SMS sound available that I don't hate, and I hate it now. I know there is some complicated software thing whereby you can trick iTunes into changing the sounds... but come on. Give me some more options. My Razr had tons of different options. And while we're on the subject, why can't I customize the eMail alert? I want my (admittedly dorky) 'You've got Mail!' sound that I had loaded on my Treo.
4. How about a native folder, managed in iTunes, where I can put documents, little files, etc. other than pictures. I would love to have a simple, easy to use file folder that I could use to attach simple docs to eMails, or even just have them to review/(dare I say)edit at a later date. I know 'there's an app for that' but it seems so basic that you could have documents on a tab right next to 'pictures' in iTunes. It seems intuitive to me.
5. It would warm my heart to be able to have 2 exchange type eMails on my phone. I happen to use exchange professionally as well as personally, and would like my personal exchange to be on the phone alongside the office. It should let me choose to combine the contacts in my phone book, or pick one of the accounts. Same with calenders. Oh, and one of the reasons I have a personal exchange is so that I don't lose contacts in the event that my phone dives into a pool (again). I'm not sure if you can have exchange and MobileMe, but I'm guessing not... having a work eMail on the phone, and still having MobileMe locate my phone for me, would be nice too. Can I get an app for THAT?
6. Let me pick what apps I can run in the background. Apple says no multitasking, but mail and iPod do? Let me run Pandora in the background, or AOL radio. Oh sure, they use internet to stream too... but I'm never more than a couple hours away from my charger (one on the desk, one by the bed) so I am not worried about draining my battery. But at the gym, I would like to check eMail, listen to Mmmm Bop over Pandora, and sit on my stationary bike ALL AT ONCE!! (I live on the edge, I know).
As for hardware shifts that I would like to see... overall I still like the design and features. Maybe I'm just not imaginative enough, but the only real addition I would use that I can think of would be a flash for the camera.
