Why the iPhone is a Failure in Japan {Switched.com}

Mar 2nd 2009 12:55PM I would like to know exactly how the iPhone could be considered "technologically advanced." There's nothing "advanced" about it except maybe the software. ALL the hardware in that phone is 3-5 years old, so i would definitely rephrase.

The $1.94 reason micro-USB is the new phone charging standard {Engadget Mobile}

Feb 23rd 2009 8:15PM no offense to anyone, but i do agree with the switch from mini to micro. one thing that wasn't mentioned is that the original miniUSB port was pretty bad when it came to phones. i had so many customers that came in with broken or just nonworking charging ports. These range anywhere from the original RAZR to Blackberries and Sidekicks. I've been using a phone with this microUSB port and it seems to fit better and much more securely. it could be possible that manufacturers lost tons of money on defective charging ports due to the design and decided to use one that doesn't fail as much.

Sprint keeping a watchful eye on G1, will offer Android when it's good and ready {Engadget Mobile}

Dec 11th 2008 10:16PM I think the reason Sprint hasn't launched Android is not because the OS or lack of applications. I think that Sprint, being the business and profit oriented company that it is, realizes that if they were to launch a device at this moment, they would also have to offer free applications and open source development. Sprint and free apps/services just don't go together and they probably want to profit off every feature in the phone.

T-Mobile details prorated ETF policy, dodges rotten vegetables {Engadget Mobile}

Jun 24th 2008 2:50PM Honestly, this is not a bad plan on T-Mobile. They are one of the only carriers who actually give you the option to pay more for the phone and sign a 1 year contract. Most other carriers require a minimum 2 year contract. If T-Mobile were to change their ETF pro-rate to benefit 2 year contracts more, then they would have to stop offering 1 year contracts to balance.

Mossberg howls: "Free my Phone" {Engadget Mobile}

Oct 22nd 2007 5:23PM This article fails to mention that the American Consumer demands discounts on phones. If you want a discount on a phone, you must abide by our policies. The only way for the cell phone industry to "free" their phones would be to charge FULL price for our phones, which nobody wants to pay. People really should get their facts straight before they start to question why our policies are in place. If we discount your phone by $250 and you cancel in a month, then we lost a ton of money. Heck, even some cable companies require a 6 month or 12 month contract to sign up. Most cell phone companies will allow you to sign a 12 month contract if you provide your own phone. If you want this to change, stop asking for free/discounted phone because we will not discount if contract policies were forced to change. If you want to compare cell phones to computers, put it like this: Branded phones are more like Macs and Unbranded phones are like pc's. Macs have compatibility issues with more software than PC's, however, macs are easier to use and have less problems (much like branded phones). PC's are not as user-friendly, but have more compatible software, along with more problems like any machinery (much like unbranded phones). A branded phone can be reflashed, just like a PC can be formatted and loaded with a new OS. So how is it that carriers are bullying the US Government? If anything, the government is bullying the carriers by implimenting unfair policies to satisfy the consumer(which usually wants things that they don't want to pay for).

Sprint's Wireless Evolution, we're still waiting {Engadget Mobile}

Jul 6th 2007 1:07PM maybe they were talking about redesigning the website, getting rid of nextel, and changing their logo to "Sprint Ahead". or it could be just some marketting scam to catch people's attentions.
