I know you can go much cheaper and still get speedy performance, but I'm too much of an After Effects slut to ignore a product geared specifically towards my favorite software

Sony starts shipping VAIO JS series all-in-one desktop {Engadget}

Oct 15th 2008 7:31PM Seriously Engadget, whats up with all the LATE 'now shipping' news lately?

Exclusive HP / Toshiba laptops first in Best Buy's Blue Label lineup {Engadget}

Oct 9th 2008 1:30AM It's actually surprising because a lot of people i have met and customers I have talked to didn't like 'how small everything is' on 15.4 inch screens [carrying a resolution of 1680x1050 or similar]. Also my dad does a lot of CAD work and he wanted a smaller laptop (had a 17inch satellite p25) so I recomended another satellite with a 1680x1050 option and he is most defintely not a fan of it. I recommended a friend of mine to get a ASUS G1S because it was really cheap and had a high res screen, but then I saw him using it and he set it to like 1280x1024 which wasnt even widescreen but he told me he coudlnt stand the high resolution.

Only a couple examples... but it does go to show that consumers getting laptops smaller than 17" generally don't appreciate the extra screen real estate that some of us videoeditors, graphic designers, animators, videophilles, and nerds do.

Sony makes the JS1 and sister laptop NS1 official {Engadget}

Oct 2nd 2008 1:52PM We just got these in at Best Buy

The build quality feels really cheap, and the whole design in my opinion is just bland.

The mouse is featherweighted and the apple-spaced keyboard may take some design cues, but forgot to add the all too useful USB port on the kayboard.

Also the specs leave it a bit underpowered... and I think it's not cool that hey just repackage their laptop parts into a desktop (even though a lot of all-in-one pc's are) BUT including the lame laptop popout optical drive amongst its slot loading competition.
BUT IT PLAYS BLURAY??- So what, a lot of better products do too.

Audiovox finally ships Homebase Digital Message Center {Engadget}

Sep 18th 2008 11:04PM Considering I worked in the Digital Imaging department at Best Buy, I can confirm that we have had these since last winter; no exaggeration.

The VIDEO one i haven't seen yet though.

I'm sure the shipping now news means they are finally sending out more (as we haven't been getting shipments in the past couple months)

I have had a lot of fun doodling on it with cryptic messages for my customers to read, mwahahaha. And smiley faces.
