Department of Justice casually looking into abuses of power by big carriers? {Engadget Mobile}

Jul 8th 2009 12:58PM I don't understand why people are so stuck on this business model. Do these people do all of their shopping on late night infomercials as well?

Getting rid of the subsidized phone would not make our phones more expensive, it would likely end up making all phones cheaper, and having fewer but much better quality phones to choose from.

If you look at the retail price of most of the phones that the carriers sell, you can see that they're ridiculous. No one in their right mind would pay that price. But when we're told that that's the price and we can get 250.00 off if we sign a 2yr contract, we think we're getting a deal (perceived).
There is no way that the phone manufacturer's are going to be able to sell the same phones at their MSRP. The price of all of theses phones would suddenly become much more realistic as people began to hang on to their current phone because it still worked and they didn't see anything worth upgradeing to for $500-800 extra
Bring it on I can't wait.

Red Nokia N95 for North America now available {Engadget Mobile}

Feb 7th 2008 9:00PM Why oh why can't Nokia expand their market share with a little more North America love and offer up some of these beautiful devices with CDMA?

I have always wanted to try Symbian out, but I don't have any GSM carriers in my area.

More Palm Treo 800w specs leak out, no change in ugliness {Engadget Mobile}

Jan 24th 2008 1:04PM I would assume that it's 256MB of ROM Storage and 128MB of RAM, but I've been wrong b4.

I personally don't want a phone as thin as the iphone. I too think that the centro is too narrow, but I don't think it too thick either. It feels great in hand (other than how slippery it is). If the 800w has all of the cool Palm tweaks that the 700wx brought to WM (and maybe some new ones) and includes mini USB, WiFi and GPS then I will be all over this thing. I love the one handedness of the Palm.

I am growing tired of finding the best ROM for my Mogul that runs stable and doesn't run out RAM with only a couple of programs open. I've given up on using BT with the Mogul too. If the reviews of the final product look good, then all I can say is "Palm to the Rescue". I never thought I'd say that in 2008.

BTW, Although I've referred many people to Palm devices, I've never owned one myself.

Sharp's WS011SH Windows Mobile superphone in the wild {Engadget Mobile}

Sep 10th 2007 8:19AM Why oh why can't we get some amazing devices like this in North America? I would absolutely love to have a phone like that. I'd even take something like the imate ultimate series, but I don't have a GSM provider in my region. :(
