REPORT: Mercury Sable reaching the end of the line Thursday {Autoblog}
May 18th 2009 2:13PM @ Mitch: Correction: other makers know how to share platforms/parts bins without alienating the donor models' core audiences.
The RX350 and the Highlander are fundamentally the same, but an RX350 buyer sure as hell won't confuse the Highlander with the RX.
I keep telling everyone. Reboot the Mercury brand, create an independent rear for the S197-2 platform, add the 6-spd manual, HIDs, Limited-slip, and sync navigation, price it a little higher, and we have an instant G35 coupe competitor called the Cougar. :)
REPORT: Mercury Sable reaching the end of the line Thursday {Autoblog}

They should be doing what everyone else has been doing with multiple brands sharing the same architectures, make Mercury a niche brand, take the budget being used to create 5 identical-to-ford models and create 1 or 2 unique vehicles using the Ford parts bin.
