Symbian Foundation dares to call characters in the dialer a 'brainstorm idea' {Engadget Mobile}

Nov 4th 2009 12:16PM I know having been living in Europe(Sweden) and Canada that it might sound weird to American, but alphanumeric dialer isn't used for anything(withTS phone) example in North Europe. So it's a bit of mobile phone culture(or cell phone;)).
That said could have been done faster no doubt.

I wonder if Maemo 5 and my future N900 will have alphanumeric dialer?

Officially Official: Toyota confirms departure from Formula One {Autoblog}

Nov 4th 2009 8:07AM Not a surprise, but nice to see end of it finally.
Happened to see this in finnish tv news where Toytota boss Tadashi Yamanshi car crying on the press conference. Seemed to be important.

Nokia said to be launching smartphone with AT&T, Snapdragon ahoy? {Engadget}

Oct 30th 2009 12:14PM jdechko you are not making sense. If you are talking about USA only point taken, but only phone from N or E series that's more expensive than iphone 3GS is the old E90 when it came out. N97 and N900 are cheaper via contract here in Germany and those two are Nokias flagships.

Nokia said to be launching smartphone with AT&T, Snapdragon ahoy? {Engadget}

Oct 30th 2009 9:02AM Lol what's up with the logo. I believe they didn't even have that logo when they started making phones. That said some use that logo in Finland still as it makes nice contrast of what Nokia was and what Nokia became in just so short time.

Hmmm not too sure about snapdragon, could be. There will be OMAP3 phones that's for sure coming soon from Nokia(from Eldar) and as "N920" should get it announcement in not too long future(2010 Q1 release). Will be using OMAP3 as stated from Nokia that all Maemo 5 devices will be using it.
Thought i actually think this could be about first Symbian^2 device and as Symbian^2 is ready, first device(s) should be announced in very near future as states on the Symbian Foundation roadmap. Snapdragon could be possible there, but i doubt it.

Rechargeable zinc-air batteries promise a lot, we'll see if they deliver in 2010 {Engadget}

Oct 30th 2009 8:08AM Got a say this sounds most promising in a short term in the battery tech world i have heard.
Batteries in mobile/smartphones have been the same for ages while features have gone up there. N95-1 being good example in 2006 ;)
This is needed and i hope we actually see this soon rather than just talks about it like all the previous.

Nokia vs. Apple: the in-depth analysis {Engadget}

Oct 29th 2009 4:13PM Heh could work :)

Thought i think Nokia is a bit too big of company for Microsoft or not to even talk Apple to eat. Good to remember that just last year and since 2001 it has been one of the most profitable companies out there.

Nokia's first TD-SCDMA-based 6788 ready for China Mobile's 500 million subscribers {Engadget}

Oct 27th 2009 7:27AM It's good to remember that while Nokia made it's first lost ever since it started making mobile phones those came from Nokia Siemens Networks(EUR -1,107 write down) not from it's mobile phone division that is still profitable and still has the same market share as before. Nokias future is still far away from Moto even if it might seem grim looking from North America.

Plus we have already seen to next move in it's higher end phones with the introduction of Maemo coming to phones and next version that's totally build for mobile phones already in schedule in form of harmattan/maemo 6. With Maemo maturing and the typical Nokia strategy starts to play with them building phones with different HW for everyone with Maemo in it's not hard to see them coming strong... thought this needs to happen fast if they want to keep that upperhand they got with the world 4th most known brand.

Thought Nokia should have done MUCH better with iphone and Android. I hope Kallasvuo gets sacked and new guy comes that actually understand that the services comes second and the HW and OS needs to be build first. Kallasvuo made the right decissions at the end with Symbian and maemo, but it should have happened before.

CE-Oh no he didn't! Part XLV: Symbian's Lee Williams rips into Android, implies Google is evil (video) {Engadget}

Oct 26th 2009 7:50AM I don't know how you make Symbian as distant to those as like WM it's getting huge overhaul for the Symbian^4 when it goes full Qt.

Thought it does tell something that the number one mobile maker who has been Nokia=Symbian is betting big time with linux with it's Maemo platform that will already get big update in less than a year time with harmattan/maemo 6 and much of it's current platform work seem to be in the linux world. Example shifting much of it workforce to Maemo unit and it's coperation with intel.

Thought i think Symbian still has great things to show with Symbian^4. But for now i wouldn't buy Symbian V5 or Symbian^2. It's Android and Maemo love for me.
