Rumor: Jasper 360s get 256MB internal storage {Xbox 360 Fanboy}

Nov 28th 2008 3:41PM And how many of those adapters can they are really selling, with an outrageous price of $100 a piece?

Rumor: Jasper 360s get 256MB internal storage {Xbox 360 Fanboy}

Nov 28th 2008 2:49PM This is great and all.... But when are they going to add internal WiFi?

NXE Netflix activation not working for some [update] {Xbox 360 Fanboy}

Nov 19th 2008 1:06PM Mine didn't work earlier this morning, but when I tried again a few minutes ago it worked perfectly.

Lips mic incompatible with Rock Band / Guitar Hero (at launch, anyway) {Engadget}

Nov 18th 2008 6:18PM Exactly. Without GH/RB compatibility, no buy for me.

Goodbye, FireWire 400 {Engadget}

Nov 17th 2008 3:26PM I don't see Blu-Ray lasting that long either. I own a player along with 1080p TV and projector, but I rarely buy Blu-Ray movies. The picture is better, but not so much better to justify the higher cost and incompatibility with all of my other players. Most of the time I just get DVDs and use my upscaling player. It looks good enough that I'm not tempted even in the slightest to replace anything in my collection. HD movies make up about 3% of my collection, and I don't see it going up much from there. And I'm a big movie buff and tech geek.

Most people aren't buying CDs these days; physical formats are on the way out. Once our Internet connections are fast enough to download HD in realtime almost nobody is going to want to buy physical movie discs either.

Goodbye, FireWire 400 {Engadget}

Nov 17th 2008 3:17PM Anyone who...

(1) Still uses a DV or HDV video camera
(2) Does pro/semi-pro audio
(3) Wants decent performance out of their external HD/optical drive

...disagrees. FireWire is a much better designed interface than USB. With direct memory access (better performance) and daisy chaining capability (easier to setup), it is far superior to USB.

USB's biggest problem is its reliance upon the computer's CPU to handle all of the data going in and out of the port. USB controllers aren't permitted to be smart enough to send data to where it needs to go; it is reliant upon the CPU to make those decisions, taking up valuable CPU cycles, and degrading performance. It will get even worse with the higher speeds of USB 3. Has anyone noticed how your computer's CPU utilization spikes every time you transfer a lot of data over USB? Try capturing video from a USB device, saving it to an external USB hard drive and you'll see what I mean... dropped frames, sluggish computer. FireWire handles this task without any hit on the CPU at all.

The designers of USB just don't get it, and apparently the makers of peripherals and consumers don't either.

Nov 6th 2008 1:10PM What is the purpose of offering/paying for a data network if you can't use it for the types of things you do on a daily basis? If AT&T is behind the 10MB limit, they ought to be ashamed of themselves. If their network can't handle 10MB downloads maybe they are in the wrong business.

Nov 6th 2008 1:05PM The 10MB cap on over-the-air downloads makes this feature next to worthless on-the-go. I can't think of a single podcast that has downloads under 10MB. An audio podcast of 30 minutes is roughly 20MB. How many podcasts are there that are worth listening to that are less than 15 minutes long?

Nov 6th 2008 1:02PM These types of behavior aren't new. Apple has always behaved like this. It's just that they're bigger and more visible now, so it gets noticed more than it ever has in the past.
