Review: A Christmas Carol {Cinematical}

Nov 6th 2009 9:42AM Motion capture: meh. 3-D: double meh. All of these things the studios want me to find captivating and money-worthy... all I want is a well-told story. Hell, I'd rather sit at a campfire with my old Scout Master (can we skip the easy pedophile jokes?) and listen to him tell old stories simply because he was a great story-teller. Never saw a bit of 3-D around the campfire, yet I enjoyed it far more than most movies.

Yeah, all the snazzy stuff is nice, but only if it's backing up a well-told story.

Insignia's Little Buddy Child Tracker encourages kids to run away, disown parents {Engadget}

Oct 26th 2009 3:39PM incognito, you don't have kids, do you? Call us back when you do; I can nearly guarantee you will see things differently. What you call 'spying' most parents call 'taking care' and view it as an inescapable responsibility rather than some kind of power trip. Sure, I want to know where my kids are all the time -- not so I can track them down, punish them, and ruin their childhood, but so I can help them if there's ever any trouble.

I'd lay down in traffic for my kids. Using tracking tech to keep up with them isn't inherently wrong or harmful, no matter what you OR Darren Murph might have to say on the matter.

Oct 3rd 2009 2:27PM I dunno, man; I still can't see my to do list on my iPhone's home screen. My Treo did that and more just fine. The iPhone may be a prettier and perhaps even better smartphone, but more capable? I'm not so sure.

Sep 7th 2009 4:35PM This is the only way I will ever end up with an Xbox 360. I am a cheap, miserable bastard. Aren't you just dying to pick me?

Either way, this'll be a fun fight to watch.

Head of Roman Catholic Church in England warns against the dangers of SMS, email, and social networking {Engadget}

Aug 2nd 2009 12:18PM Using texting and tweeting to supplement normal, face-to-face interactions is a nice convenience and can actually increase communication (and thus closeness) between friends. I think the concern being expressed is that such interactions are replacing face-to-face communications instead of supplementing them in such cases, which could easily lead to a loss of closeness with others. How can tweeting express the depth of feeling that one gets in a heartfelt chat with a true friend? Even phone conversatons are no replacement for that, much less a Facebook chat! I can see how, if these modes of communication became your primary ones, you could start to feel very isolated - and that could be enough to push some few unstable, unhappy souls to suicide. The man's point is not entirely invalid.
