Canon EOS 50D begins filtering out, gets previewed {Engadget}

Oct 2nd 2008 11:40AM Could be the 5D fits your bill. You'll miss out on some of the niceties of the 50D or 5DII, but the price is right, the IQ is great and a 14 mm lens is 14 mm.

Leica debuts S-system, 37-megapixel flagship S2 camera {Engadget}

Sep 22nd 2008 10:32AM They were referring to the physical size of the camera, not the number of pixels in the sensor.

Olympus outs mid-range Four Thirds E-A1 and Micro Four Thirds prototype {Engadget}

Sep 22nd 2008 8:57AM Not really true. There was a lot of excitement over Sigma's SD-1 concept. People were seduced by the promise of DSLR-like image quality in a compact digital-sized package. It was to be the perfect pocket camera for the kinds of people that care about IQ over MPs. Sigma didn't really come through, but it doesn't mean their concept was flawed. I thought that was a good idea, and I think this is also has potential. Given the looks of Oly's prototype, I can see these generating some sales.

Canon starts teaser campaign, evolved 5D expected {Engadget}

Sep 5th 2008 8:27AM Not quite. In Europe everything is listed as the EOS, but in the US and Japan (other markets IDK) the entry level cameras don't use the EOS branding. In Japan they are Kiss, and in the US/Canada they are Rebel. IIRC, the 400D is called the Kiss XSi in the US and Kiss X2 in Japan. Why? Who knows. But the 40D is marketed the same everywhere.

Stringer urges Sony to "get mad," baffle with metaphors {Engadget}

May 23rd 2008 5:43AM Ahh, fork that!

Ummm, but actually, forks are pretty much ubiquitous in Japan. Sorry.

Japan sells not a single 2G phone in January {Engadget Mobile}

Mar 15th 2008 3:09AM Seems like this coincides with SoftBank releasing a 3G prepaid handset. Now that it's released there probably isn't much demand for 2G handsets, other than for service replacements.

Sigma teases again with its full-spec DP1 compact camera {Engadget}

Jan 30th 2008 8:16AM well maybe only in form factor. The Leica takes exchangeable lenses,
while the DP-1's will be non-exchangeable and fixed focal length.
Someone above probably had the best analogy, a Ricoh GRII with an
APS-C sensor bolted on. I was pretty excited about this camera a year
ago, but looking at the lens specs, my ardor has cooled a bit. It
looks like a lot of compromises were made to stuff a full-sized
sensor into a compact body.

We'll see, it may still be a dynamite camera for certain situations.

Sony's 24.81 megapixel, full-frame CMOS sensor going pro this year {Engadget}

Jan 30th 2008 5:55AM correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Sony unveil their recent 12MP sensor just a few days before the D300 and alpha-700 were announced? Maybe Nikon and Sony will have something more interesting than the D60 and alpha-350, respectively. Would be interesting.
