Recent Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM shows finger friendly approach {Engadget Mobile}

Jul 19th 2009 6:23PM @Steve
He did mean CHome: it's the Titanium Today Plugin for Windows Mobile 6.5

@rafalplus03
Actually, the latest build is 23007

All of the latest builds are on their way to Windows Mobile 6.5.1 which is apparently going to see some serious under-the-hood changes and finger-friendly updates.

Windows Marketplace launching with 600 apps, or one bazillion times what the App Catalog has {Engadget}

Jun 30th 2009 5:10AM I'm a Windows Mobile fan. Always have been, [that's a lie, I was a UIQ fan first until that platform died :(] and will be for a while yet I think [but Android is calling...].

SimbaDogg and the other guy: You're irrational. Windows Mobile isn't perfect. Chris isn't a biased writer in my opinion. There are worse bloggers out there, trust me.

Chris: I disagree that the iPhone 3GS is more "capable" than the Touch Diamond 2. The sheer multi-tasking prowess of the TD2, the pretty sexy user-interface [coupled with Windows Mobile 6.5's under the hood tweaks] along with that decent camera and slick looks... well, I would prefer a TD2.

You can't say it's more capable without defining what capable is. The 3GS is more stable, yeah I'd grant you that point. The 3GS is more intuitive out of the box, yeah I'll give you that one as well. Yeah, I would [and do] reccommend an iPhone to most of my friends over a TD2, simply because it suits their needs best.

Doesn't meant that it's more capable than the TD2 however ;)

I understand your frustation however: Windows Mobile lovers are often worse than Apple lovers. It's scary infact, as is evident from the posters above me. However, to write the Touch Diamond 2 off when you've had only a pre-release sample to play with [from memory, correct me if I'm wrong] for a few hours... well, I think that's just plain silly ;)

Windows Mobile has a long way to go before it can compete with the iPhone in the eyes of consumers. That's what we're really talking about here. We all know BB and WinMo reign supreme in the corporate world. The question is whether Microsoft can tie that power and corporate backing in with a slick and stable interface in time before the consumer world writes them off completely.

My biggest thing with smartphone OS's these days: No-one has a file-browser anymore. Give me one of those, and you as a platform have my heart ;)

Nokia launching 'high-end handset' with capacitive touchscreen in Q3? {Engadget Mobile}

May 15th 2009 8:31PM Capacitive glass touch screen != silky smooth interface.

Look at the Samsung F480 if you want proof that having a capacitive touch-screen doesn't do much if your UI is slow as dogs balls.

GamePark GP2X Wiz gaming handheld now available, for real {Engadget}

May 15th 2009 2:56AM Actually, you'll find the A320 has a scene that is taking _off_!

We're now porting Linux, and even have a kernel booting already. This handheld is great, a 400mhz MIPS proc with some decent emulators out of the box, and more being ported right now.

The scene is what makes these systems, and the Wiz shot itself in the foot with that crappy control design, and the fact it's months late and more expensive than the A320.

All my mates and myself now have A320's, and I love it. Working on installing the SDK for my own dev work now actually, and once Linux is dual booting the sky is the limit.

Microsoft's latest ad: iTunes and the iPod are crazy expensive {Engadget}

May 11th 2009 7:03PM Put it this way: If they had the Zune/Zune Pass here in Australia, I'd be using both. But they don't. So you're out of luck Microsoft. And I like the Zunes too... they fit my needs better than my Nano, but Apple has a product here and you don't.

Telecom New Zealand lighting up 3G network on May 13 {Engadget Mobile}

Apr 27th 2009 7:26PM Thank Christ!

There will finally be some competition. Compared to Australia, NZ gets... well, "Rogered" to borrow a phrase from the Canadians!

Here's hoping it'll push prices down across the country.

And of course they'll cover the entire country on day 1: it's not a big country ;)

I was impressed with Vodafones coverage when I was there earlier this year visiting family, but I wasn't impressed with the prices. A 2 year agreement, with little to no credit included [you get what you pay for?] AND you have to pay for the phone upfront?

Unheard of here in Aus.

Hyperkin's FC Mobile II plays your old NES carts any way you'd like {Engadget}

Apr 26th 2009 5:51PM Get a Dingoo A320 instead. Cheap as chips, and has 100% brilliant NES emulation [GBA emulation as well, the others are _alright_ but not brilliant yet].

The scene is starting to take off too :)

Acer Aspire One mod adds eSATA port, an element of danger {Engadget}

Seems relevant. OMG THUR R NO GIRLZ ON THE INNERTUBES really isn't that funny anymore.

Sonar hopes to power social featurephones, we get a demo {Engadget}

Feb 19th 2009 6:23PM Hehe, I was about to come in and say how stoked I was to see the P1i mentioned :P

Brilliant phone. I miss you UIQ :(

Here's hoping Symbian Foundation does you justice!

Microsoft announces Windows Mobile 6.5 {Engadget Mobile}

Feb 16th 2009 9:58AM And now, a conundrum for myself.

Do I get a Touch Diamond2 for the 6.5 upgrade, the super hi-res screen and sexy styling... or stick with my tried-and-true Omnia which I love to bits, and hope that someone will manage to port all of 6.5 over?

Because 6.5 has made WinMo relevant again. The sliding panels are beautiful, I love what they've done with menus, tabs, the keyboard... heck, even IE is good!

Finally Microsoft. Now get this out the door ASAP, before you're left behind by the others. You've just scraped in this time, and we won't be this lenient again.

The Pre is still tempting me.
