Verizon could charge content aggregators 3-cents per text message {Engadget Mobile}
Oct 13th 2008 10:08PM let me follow this logic path for once.....shall we.
for profit = charges the end user
Premium spam messges for "ringtones" that charge you 9.99 for the message and a re-curirng charge.
now, those bastards dinging people for 9.99 are not geting off scott free, they have to pay for every customer they send a message too, reducing it to cover the overall cost....really it won't affect customers, this will HELP customers by reducing the junk spam text messages you will be getting.
sounds horrible, let them spam me for free, verizon nickel and diming the world to no end, screw them trying to help the consumer....blah blah blah blah ignorance blah
Verizon to offer contract-free postpaid plans? {Engadget Mobile}
Sep 17th 2008 7:05PM The plans stay the same, in reality it's a sound business choice.
the phone no longer will cost them anything in subsidizing(I htink they had a figure in the billions of lost money to phone subsidies), and they make profit right away. frankly I am amazed the big red money machine that is verizon wireless didn't think of this sooner.
and no, the plans will not be cheaper, if you want cheaper plans, go sign up with sprint, and cross yrou fingers it works half the time. I understand yrou point that the plans are a price to make up for subsidizing phones, however there is no reason for the big red to lower the price. people will not think that the plan should be lower, people will think this is a good thing, and the masses are dumb..this is not news. and why would they? because some loser on engadget mobile thinks they are overpriced? please...let me hold back the press core.
Verizon says heads will roll at Alltel {Engadget Mobile}
Aug 18th 2008 5:03PM because alltell has overbloated it's employee base and created debt by bad business models, and Veriozn plans to fix that.
yeah, god...Verizon should just keep em all....let em hang out, steady collecting checks every week.....
wait, you have a union job don't you?
BlackBerry Thunder getting October 13 date with destiny on Verizon? {Engadget Mobile}
Aug 10th 2008 10:26AM no wife = MAJOR FREAKING WIN!!!!
no massive battery draining pointless thing on the device that losers who wants to skim on the data package need to quantify their loser existance with a nice device they can't pay for month to month.
why get Wifi when you have an EVDO revA nationwide network, along with being prepped for LTE??
you losers who think wifi is a good idea on cell phones need to stop posting, wifi is one of the most pointless features on a VERIZON handset. sure maybe tmobile or ATT with their smaller high speed network coverage could use it.
Samsung Instinct, LG Dare, iPhone 3G... fight! {Engadget Mobile}
Jul 14th 2008 8:09PM I don't knwo why everyone keeps thinkingt hey will be getting turn by turn navigation on the iphone.
Tomtom flat out said they had not worked on anything for the device, and after testing and tearing down it was revealed the GPS radio was rather small, and nowhere near powerful enough to actually do real time turn by turn navigation.
the Google maps locator is supposed to be the best you can get.
Samsung Instinct, LG Dare, iPhone 3G... fight! {Engadget Mobile}
Jul 14th 2008 2:58PM the problem I see with these write ups is that there is so much Iphone love, when the truth comes out that the dare does everything the iphone does...and more for the same cost, people will claim they are lying
pros of the 3g iPhone to me:
glass screen
cool UI
hands down best websurfing on any device on any network
cons:
speed isn't THAT great wich takes us to...
3g is VERY small coverage
no BT stereo(isn't this a MUSIC phone??)
STILL no MMS
Battery dies faster than old iphone
GPS sucks for anything other than finding yourself
Dare pros:
Better network nationwide with faster network footprint KILLS 3g
Bt stereo
MMS
Email(and exchange Email as well, with calendar sync)
responsive screen
customizable UI for more looks and better feel
much better virtual keyboard
smaller form, fits in pocket better
Has great GPS turn by turn nav, voice activated with traffic and 3d maps(best nav outside of BB nav)
Cons:
plastic front screen isn't glass, but screen protectors are cheap so /shrug
HTML browser is not safari(but second best IMO, WAY above instinct)
yeah...all I had was two, and I have had both phones for 4 weeks now...and no, you can't ask how I had both almost a month before they launched.
instict:
Haven't used it
Sprint to get a head start over Verizon on Treo 800w sales? {Engadget Mobile}
Jul 7th 2008 10:12AM It could be running windoze mobile, or palm OS....the comment is still true palm(treo) is in bad need of an OS overhaul, and popping more windoze mobile devices that are buggy as hell like the 700W, WX are going to get the same result. I can't wait til somebody buys this, has it crash 10 times, or is a horrible reception, or bad sound quality, or any number of the palm issues with their devices....and calls it a day.....again.
people looking to HTC, samsung, whoever for the device because palm has let them down so many time on so many devices. they need to get palm2.0 out, push it on the market, and do something fresh, because biggie sized centro looking models are going to get as played out as the old ones they had.
this devices rates on the "meh" level to 98% of the market...and if you are making phones hoping to sell to only 2% of the customers.....well, somebody will gladly buy you out sooner or later.
Sprint to get a head start over Verizon on Treo 800w sales? {Engadget Mobile}
Jul 7th 2008 2:47AM ok, all joking aside
the last palm big device(755) was pretty much a non seller
the centro is doing well, but the pearl is out selling it
with the 800p coming out, no new OS, and just a redesign on the case...why does it matter who has it first?
it's just a shinier turd.
palm needs a new OS work over, the OS kinda sucks, isn't very intuitive, hard to figure out, and unless you are an old palmOS user it isn't something to try out for new users.
Verizon's Samsung U430 excites our inner milquetoast {Engadget Mobile}
Jun 24th 2008 11:20PM the above poster is right, these may be the thinsg most of us who read this care about the LEAST, but these low end devices are what makes carriers tons of money. every carrier has these devices, I am always suprised when you gusy post the verizon ones and not the alltel/sprint/att models. were is the post about the awesome ax300 for alltell? were is the post about the M300 from sprint? wich is basically a cllone of this device.
were is the post about A437 from ATT??
oh, they are not here....because nobody gives a crap abotu them either, but for some reason we get the verizon models, and as usual we get chris bagging on verizon with his witless and wet humor that provides us with little to no info.
Verizon's new PTT: presence support, more contacts {Engadget Mobile}
Jun 23rd 2008 5:03PM woah woah woah
are you three idiots seriously saying you are letting a call center AD know to try and catch the leaker?
really....
REALLY?!?
I know call center reps have alot of free time, and you job consistences of hoping to get your next smoke break and screwing up customer's accounts until they get so pissed they storm into a store and scream at people for no reason, but if you really think your AD is going to get all high horse and start tracking some fat pathetic call center reap who works there because they could never hack it in face to face commissions based retail job at a corporate store...you got another thing coming.
go back to counting down to your smoke break and deal with it.
