The LG KE850: touchable chocolate {Engadget}

Dec 17th 2006 10:51PM I'd say iPhone, except for 2 things:

1 - Apple has either contracted to Hon Hai/Foxconn or BenQ-Siemens for iPhone, something the BenQ chairman has been claiming for a while, and the BenQ blackbox concept looked even more iPhone-esqe than this, and...

...the LG/PRADA colab is rumored to be all touchscreen, so this may well be for prada. sorry, apple fanboys and girls, your phone will come soon, but likely not from LG.

Keepin' it real fake, part XXXIX: Apple teams with Palm for... wait, nm {Engadget}

Dec 17th 2006 6:04PM funny thing is, that ripoff control wheel has the same design (with the bold capital M on top instead of the word "menu") as the ripoff iPods they sell in china (and that engadget has already wrote a KIRF article about, i think). so whoever puts this out makes ripoff MP3 players for a living, and doesn't even put any variation between models except uhh......the logo on the front, which never belonged to them anyway.
and apparently, the packaging it comes in. although, under the "fake treo branded fake nano player" (say that 10 times fast), it seems to say "ayer", which is spanish for yesterday, and probably similar to the portugese word for yesterday. so this ripoff MP3 player biz is yesterday's news.

Blu-ray / HD DVD stalemate boosting interest in combo player? {Engadget}

Dec 17th 2006 10:04AM they say that by next june, the price of blu-ray burners will decrease drastically. and i think it was NEC that made a chip that properly read and decoded both formats, so if someone makes a drive using that chipset when the gallium nitride LEDs get cheaper, we may have a dual-format burner for no more than 3 or 4 hundred dollars by this time next year. then it won't matter who wins, because your computer will be compatible with both :)

my opinion is the war should end quickly, with blu-ray being an obvious choice for people who use discs as data backups, and if dual-format drives take off, then let the movie studios choose what discs contain movies; if they don't take off, just keep everything BD to save money.

Variations on a theme: the Motorola KRZR Fire {Engadget Mobile}

Dec 14th 2006 7:38PM if the KRZR was actuslly a decent phone, this would be news, but I've actually been losing respect for motorola ever since the 4LTR and MOTOfashion family came out...RIZR, Q, PEBL and SLVR are the only decent 4LTRs, because all the clamshells other than PEBL have the hideous bottom lip. i'd swing for any of those other models, except they all have terrible OSes, i hate the stock moto OS, i hate the verizon UI even more, and i'm not big on WinMo. oh and PEBL and RIZR aren't available for CDMA, and i hate candybars because if you forget to keylock before you put it in your pocket, you're going over on your minutes.

SK-Pang's Gogic Five hobby bot {Engadget}

Dec 13th 2006 5:49PM half the price of PS3, twice as fun.

Verizon's EV-DO Rev. A network launches Friday? {Engadget}

Dec 12th 2006 9:50PM verizon wireless? that company that treated their customers like chopped liver? people still use their services?

the Rev A will likely cost 20 to 30 dollars a month more than sprint's EVDO plans that include unlimited release 0 EVDO and rev A if your card supports it, and you just know the VZ's going to throw net neutrality to the wind and block VoIP and certain other goodies that make the interweb great. classic verizon.+

and my sprint reps will all confirm that rev A does wonders for upstream, but only slight downstream increases. i'm not buying another data card until Rev C EVDO is available in 2009, along with the final developer's preview of vista.

Samsung's Robin, Flipper, and Spear? {Engadget Mobile}

Dec 12th 2006 8:43PM word on the SU forums is that flipper is the M620, and the black Q, aka the franklin, will be available in january or february.

http://www.sprintusers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=120213&highlight=m510

so much for people thinking sprint's lineup is bad, it's now turning into the most exciting phone lineup in the US. thin phone people can get their blade, katana, RAZR, KRZR, M610, M500 and (soon) Q and SLVR on, PDA phone users can get the 700wx, 700p or HTC apache, and the free phone, sanyo 3100, has a camera and an external screen, and supports ready link. not to mention the M1 is the craziest music phone in america.

Pre-built wireless Wii sensor bar for sale {Engadget}

Dec 12th 2006 8:34PM i think i'd rather get the LEDs built into my TV so they still have power without a battery, but no wires sticking out. plus it'd be the overall cleanest look. so, who's gonna be the first to sell TVs with built in wii sensor bars?

Samsung's Robin, Flipper, and Spear? {Engadget Mobile}

Dec 12th 2006 8:28PM i'm waiting for them to put the features of M500 in the svelte, metal casing that A900 has. they probably could fit it into the space that an M610 takes up, but I like my external MP3 controls and separate headset and data plugs.

also, my latest gripe with A900 is that just having a coin in your pocket ruins the paint. make your next black phone black all the way through, samsung.

and flipper can't be the F300, because F300 has the prefix SGH, which stands for samsung GSM handset, and sprint only uses CDMA (or more specifically, PCS).

Digital Tech's Touch Stone: hot, pocket charging action {Engadget}
