HP buying VoodooPC {Engadget}
Sep 28th 2006 7:54PM Somehow I don't see this as a good move for gamers (or high-end PC lovers). Dell (and HP) commodotize the market, churning out mass-market machines that don't take advantage of the latest and greatest hardware possibilities. Latest and greatest equals risk equals not right for a big company.
When I (ended up building my own) bought my new PC recently, I looked at Alienware, and found that they didn't offer up the best the market had to offer and they didn't offer truly custom PCs. I called them and all the person could say was "I don't know if we can do that, whatever's available online is what we sell."
On the flip side, this is great news for Falcon Northwest, who still believes in truly custom built PCs.

Sep 11th 2006 6:17PM The real issue with this discussion is that too many people have Apple on the mind. Change your mindset (and vendor) and this becomes a moot point. Napster, Yahoo, even URGE, allow you to download multiple times to multiple PCs and download again if you have any issues.
Of course, this only applies to your digital audio assets. Agreed that for other digital assets (eBooks, video, potentially, love the downloaded phone assets example) need to be covered.

Aug 10th 2006 12:27PM Is it just me, or is this just irrelevant nnow? I mean, with HD DVD out there, which is protected by other means than CSS, why even bother talking old DVD format stuff?

Jul 21st 2006 5:32PM Even if you sign up for a contract, they're making more than $41. Remember, the contract discounts the price of the phone, but if you break that contract you owe that discount back to the carrier. And why do they discount the the phone $150? Cuz they know they're making at least three times that on your two year contract.
