CNET gives credit to Engadget after stealing scoop. {The Jason Calacanis Weblog}
May 10th 2005 4:26PM JC -- I could not possibly disagree more with your position on this subject. Most reporting is derivative. 99% of the stories on your TV news broadcast come from newspapers. 99% of the stories in the newspaper come from trade publications or other print media, or the Internet. This whole idea that a journalist has to reveal where their story came from, is self-righteous fabricated morality. It doesnt serve the reader, who couldnt care less which outlet is winning this intra-media pissing match. I would agree that CNET shouldnt have stolen your photos (is that even legal?), but they are under no obligation to reveal their sources be they blogs or otherwise. Be the first to report. It will win you respect and possibly more readers. But in a competitive media environment, dont expect other publications to give you credit.

CNET ethics investigation: Apple slammed because they don't buy ads on CNET? {The Jason Calacanis Weblog}
May 4th 2005 6:29PM Plagiarism is an ethics violation, but "not crediting bloggers for stories" is not. The facts are the facts and if you found them first lucky you maybe youll get more readers. But that doesnt mean that I should credit you if I write on the same subject. If I use your exact words, yes. If I "borrow" a quote you scored during an interview, yes. But if you report facts and I verify and report them again, no, I dont have to credit you.
