Apple's lawsuit against Psystar examined {Engadget}
Jul 16th 2008 7:59PM The guts of Apple branded computers are nearly identical to the guts of Psystar branded computers. There's nothing magical or technically superior about Apple branded computers.
The only thing this shows is just how over-priced Apple branded computers are and how anti-competitive Apple is for not wanting to face any competition.
Their EULA is a joke. Imagine if the DVD's you bought from Sony had an EULA that said you could only play their DVD's on a Sony DVD player. I don't see this as being any different.
Nielsen VideoScan High-Def market share for week ending June 1st, 2008 {Engadget HD}
Jun 7th 2008 2:49AM There's a problem with that 10%. That 10% is only for the top 20 money making titles for the week. Is that top 20 the top selling Blu-ray discs or top selling DVD's?
If you take the total sales of each, you come up with 7.7% ($10.05M / $129.37M * 100). Go back to last week sales and do the same calculation ($12.38M / $148.88M * 100) and you'll see that last week Blu-ray's total sales were actually a higher percentage than this week at 8.3%!!!
Now, take this even further and consider the fact that Blu-ray discs cost more than standard DVD's and the numbers are probably even worse. If you want to get a really good gauge on what in-roads Blu-ray is making, compare the total number of units sold for each format.
Nielsen VideoScan High-Def market share for week ending June 1st, 2008 {Engadget HD}
Jun 6th 2008 11:52PM Umm...did you guys NOT notice that sales were down nearly 19% over last week? How is this impressive? How is this good news? Just because Blu-ray increased its still meager market share, I fail to see how this is good news in light of the 19% drop in overall sales.
Voom HD claims over $1 billion in damages from DISH Network drop {Engadget HD}
Jun 3rd 2008 3:21PM This won't go anywhere fast. It's in Dish's best interest to go a slow as possible in the hopes that Voom will go belly up before they have a chance to pursue their claims in court.
Who in their right mind would buy a Blu-ray player right now? {Engadget HD}
May 2nd 2008 1:35PM I have an HD-A30 and I absolutely HATE this feature. When I press menu I want to go to a menu and I want the movie to pause.
Blu-ray player sales sink as 2008 begins... except for Sony's PlayStation 3 {Engadget HD}
May 1st 2008 11:28AM I don't really give a crap about 2.0 Profile. I don't need/want Ethernet access for my DVD player. In fact, I rarely--if ever--watch the extras included on discs. I care about watching movies and have little time to watch anything else.
I think the average consumer probably feels the same way and has no clue about the various Blu-ray profiles currently or soon-to-be available.
Consumers want a Blu-ray player that is affordable (read,

Apr 30th 2008 1:12PM I'd like to see Re-volt for the N64 added.
Study finds high prices, hamstrung players limiting Blu-ray's dominance {Engadget HD}
Apr 29th 2008 11:05PM This is anything but shocking. As I've been saying all along, until/unless prices of the players come down to earth so that the average Joe can afford them, Blu-ray will flounder. If the the manufacturers wait too long to drop prices, Blu-ray will remain a niche product. If studios don't release more software for the players, that would be another strike against them.
If all parties involved are not careful, this could wind up being just like the high definition CD format that Sony tried to launch.
NY Times tackles Wii's tie-in ratio {Nintendo Wii Fanboy}
Apr 22nd 2008 12:25PM Finally something to get excited about!!! I have no interest in playing rehashed Mario/Wario/Luigi/etc games. I want new. I had a feeling the hardware wasn't being fully exploited. Hopefully this will raise the bar for other developers.
An Epic diss {Nintendo Wii Fanboy}
Apr 21st 2008 3:21PM We've had ours since October, 2007. We rarely play it. We bought it because we thought there would be a lot of games that the entire family could play together. However, there are few games that the 3 of us can play at the same time that are worth playing.
We played Wii Sports for the first few weeks after we bought it, but that got old really fast. We've tried the various party games, but those games are very repetitive and arbitrary. We played Guitar Hero and had a lot of fun with that, but only one person could play at a time since you couldn't buy just the guitar.
I'm hoping Wii Ski and Mario Kart will finally be games that all three of us can play at the same time and actually enjoy playing.
