Philips' new 'Xenium 800' touchscreen phone leaks out {Engadget Mobile}

May 7th 2008 6:52PM any why don't posts that appear on both engadget and engadgemobile link to the same page? I hate posting comments here only to realise the main discussion is over on engadget - the main page and rss links should link to the same page no matter which feed.

Philips' new 'Xenium 800' touchscreen phone leaks out {Engadget Mobile}

May 7th 2008 6:43PM YAWN!!

When will the three column icon menu GO AWAY? God I hate that type of navigation. I'd rather a plain text list, having to scan both up and down AND side to side while looking for an icon that might resemble what you think you're looking for just gives me a headache!

This set has NO colour to help you out, though most phones use TOO much colour which doesn't help either.

and why is the main focus always one row down? Menu's should start at the top left - far more logical, even though you think you're used to this crazy middle of the screen starting point simply because all phones copy it so blindly.

I doubt the iPhone is the best interface possible, but at least it is DIFFERENT - it feels less like columns and more like a list (in rows) and at least the buttons are different colours - and you can move them around.

Are dogs a cure for hayfever? {That's Fit}

May 7th 2008 5:55AM I got a cat at 23 and it has helped a lot with my allergies. We had a dog when I was very little, but at around age 5 or 6 she died and wasn't replaced. From then on my allergies got worse (not suggesting it is related) and I used to get very sneezy around cats. But my love of them eventually overtook common sense and I got a (short hair Burmese, typically lower-allergen) cat. I couldn't be happier! My sister gets hayfever at my place, yet I was the one who used to have all the worst allergies!

PC Magazine likes the new iMac {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

May 7th 2008 2:09AM No integrated card reader (too many formats, etc) but they could really do with a BUNCH more USB ports - maybe even some on the *gasp* side - for easy thumb drive use. I'm all for USB-everyithng, but you NEEd lots of built in ports, especially on a desktop with printer/scanner/keyboard/mouse/cardreader/external hdd(s)/ipod(s)/etc all wanting to be hooked up permanently. usb hubs are OK, but built in ports are better!

The death of mobile TV {BloggingStocks}

May 6th 2008 12:55AM Actually the biggest demand for mobile TV is for sports - the kind of thing you don't want to timeshift, because you want to know the score as it happens.

The biggest market for this is obviously men 18-35, who are well positioned to take it up as they don't tend to spend their disposable income on handbags and shoes!

Cents 1.0 {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Apr 28th 2008 9:33PM This seems like a good idea -I'm off on a holiday soon and I know I can never keep track of how much coinage I'm wasting on random things (except when my wallet is empty)

Apr 28th 2008 9:30PM are you crazy? you give your internet banking login details over to a random company?

TriBand antenna for Time Capsule {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Mar 26th 2008 12:08AM don't you really need 802.11n for Time Capsule, since transferring a lot over even 802.11g is pretty slow? I guess if you have an older mac you have no choice, but I'd think to use it you would want n (or pre-n or whatever they are calling it now)

Western Digital rolls out colorful new My Passport Elite USB hard drives {Engadget}

Mar 25th 2008 8:25PM I still prefer my pink one! But so far it's been performing great, so small and light (actually I lost it for a while in a bundle of clothes!)

Occasionally it is really slow to copy something, not sure what's up with that. Otherwise, awesome.

(I do hate how they photograph them to look all-over coloured - the backs are usually white or black!)
