Firefox 3.5 exceeds 7 million downloads, portable, Ubuntu versions available {Download Squad}

Jul 2nd 2009 5:24PM There was a challenge when Firefox 3.0 was released to break a download record and Mozilla was advertising it like it was the only thing to live for. This ad campaign didn't exist for version 3.5 and not many people knew about the release date.

Add to that, some people now download once and install multiple times. I have done that myself. I installed Firefox 3.5 on 10 computers from a single download. I am also spreading it to my not-so-geeky friends that don't know what the word browser means.

Jul 2nd 2009 5:00PM All my saved passwords are gone. Lucky me I use Password Exporter extension. I don't even remember most of my passwords.

Jun 30th 2009 2:14PM That's not a bug, that's a feature!

Jun 30th 2009 2:13PM I use both Google Chrome and Firefox. Why? Well Firefox for all the regular browsing and bookmarks (especially since I synchronize them online) and some stuff that require extensions. I use Chrome for my Google Apps and sometimes when the page heavily uses javascript.

I have to admit though that Chrome's interface is better in 2 ways. The 1st is the way tabs appear and the 2nd is the lack of a tools menu. I wish I can remove the tools menu in Firefox without installing an extension for that. Better yet, I wish Firefox doesn't have one.

Since 3.0.0.11 is so yesterday, I resign to update my best friend's number tag, errr, I mean features.

Dear Mozilla: Can haz non-RC Firefox 3.5? Thanx! {Download Squad}

Jun 26th 2009 10:40PM Cool idea! Now you made me want this feature.

I'll extend it by wanting the location bar to display history with the ability to swap history for book marks. Also display a merged tree of links from history and bookmarks, example: when displaying the bookmarks you can have a button to show the history of pages from same site to the link and when displaying history have the same option for displaying bookmarks from the same site. Add to that the ability to search one or both (history, bookmarks) at a time.

Integrate all that with Similar Web plugin might be an overkill but I like to dream.

Mmmm, I'll probably email Mozilla with the whole design. I have a lot of specifics on how to make this work from a usability point of view.

Jun 26th 2009 3:42PM Hey Download Squad, don't be pushy. I really am waiting for Firefox 3.5 myself but I'd rather have first time users of a new browser have something that is solid instead of tarnishing Firefox's name. Little bugs after release will be counted as patches to the software and measuring it up against other browsers will make it appear less safe. I love Firefox and love that it has a good reputation.

On an unrelated subject, if any of you knows of a Firefox fan club, just reply it. Now I'll be Googling, Binging, Yahooing, et al.

Samsung's 12 megapixel M8910 Pixon12 cellphone tries to make your camera obsolete {Engadget}

Jun 26th 2009 8:31AM If you take into consideration the OS that this phone is running, will you trade it with your cash? I most likely won't.

Megapixels are nice but even for 12 megapixels I'll try to look at the bigger picture. Software is what makes a phone these days because the thats what makes it usable. Look at the iPhone, crappy camera but sells like hell. The Pre is my favourite for its web integration. Other than taking photos, can this phone do much with the pics?

City of Bozeman requires social logins and passwords in exchange for job {Download Squad}

Jun 20th 2009 4:45AM Do you have your own home-built social networking site, because last time I checked all social networks give you a one password option to access everything.

This also means they cans send messages in your name and delete all your data either deliberately or by mistake.

Another thing, does the system have safeguards so that your data doesn't get abused. I think the people who want to control your life skipped this one in their paperwork they ask you to fill. They did so by asking you to consensually give your passwords/user names.
