Vizio VP322 32-inch plasma eyes-on {Engadget}

Jun 26th 2008 9:50PM Resolution should not be a dealbreaker 1024x720 or 768 is fine, especially for a 32"
There is more to picture quality than resolution

Plasma's success is no "comeback" {Engadget HD}

Jan 12th 2008 8:52PM it amazes me how few people care about picture quality.... if they want to think plasma is dead and that LCD is where it's at - I can't help them

1080p TVs don't always look better than 720p TVs {Engadget HD}

Jan 9th 2008 1:33AM I agree with you - the hard part about researching HDTVs is that you need to step out from behind the computer - you really need to get out to a lot of different stores and look at these things with your own eyes to find the set with the best picture. (this all gets complicated by in-store settings, poor video sources, and crazy lighting, but I'll save that for another day)
To my eye, I'll still take my "old" 1024x768 panny 42px500u over almost any of the 1920 x 1080 LCDs that were on the front page of the Black Friday ads - you really have to consider the whole package...

Nintendo establishes official raincheck program for Wii {Engadget}

Dec 14th 2007 6:00PM Andrew, you're right - they're fiscal year-end is probably 3/31 (like many Japanese companies)

Nintendo establishes official raincheck program for Wii {Engadget}

Dec 14th 2007 12:28PM It's not last minute revenue. It's deferred revenue. It will be revenue in January. Accounting guidance requires 4 critera to be met prior to the recognition of revenue
>Evidence of an arrangement (all set)
>Price is fixed or determinable (all set)
>Delivery has occurred (this is the problem -until January)
>Collectibility is reasonably assured. (all set)

Wall street likes backlog though :)

Poll: Where do you stand in the format war? {Engadget HD}

Nov 13th 2007 10:57AM which way is "i lean red" - don't they both use blue lasers?

Verizon dumps CDMA for GSM-based LTE in 4G networks {Engadget}

Sep 21st 2007 1:46PM "I think big red will actually know how to implement a migration without looking like total tards" - I disagree. Have you seen how long it takes them to even launch a new phone? I can't imagine they'll make a big more like this without dragging their feet forever

US-based Segway polo team grabs gold in 2007 Woz Challenge Cup {Engadget}

Sep 18th 2007 6:25PM Agreed - it's the stupidest thing I've ever read here (close to this segway crap, but still the stupidest thing I've seen here)

Microsoft plans on slashing 360 to "mass market price point" {Engadget}

Jul 13th 2007 12:05AM Chaos, I'm an accountant, and while I generally agree with your point, Cash is never "written off" - Cash is cash.
warranty reserves are judgemental - and things can get a little hairy in 3 years when they still have a reserve up on the books for a billion dollars that, suddenly, in their judgement, they no longer need that reserve because the liability doesn't exist as the original 1.5B was a little too conservative, so, they get rid of that billion dollar reserve, and release it to income - straight to the bottom line - what looked like a mediocre quarter suddenly becomes a bit better and because we're talking about a company the size of microsoft, no one ever notices the measly billion of cushion that was taken down

this is how businesses get in trouble every day
