Engadget's recession antidote: win one of 100 Microsoft Windows 7 pre-order discount codes! {Engadget}

Jun 25th 2009 2:44PM Well I don't have a comment really for fixing the world economy... I already tried to play the lottery to fix my own economy but that I didn't work out too well. Figure 100/10000 is better odds than 1:150million.

Oh and Windows 7 is sweeeet

BlackBerry Storm buyer's remorse? You're not alone! {Engadget}

Dec 18th 2008 1:10PM I have been a Verizon subscriber for 4 years and have been waiting FOREVER for them to come out with a phone I deemed "acceptable" as compared to GSM smartphones available over the last few years. Repeatedly I have been frustrated by bloat-ware-loaded, underpowered, crippled versions of phones spit out by Verizon. Their service is the best in my area, so it's always been a battle.

The very first night I went out and got a Storm, with a new-every-2 I got an extra $100 off so with accessories (had I turned in the rebate) the phone would have cost only $130! For three weeks I kept it. I downloaded the update IMMEDIATELY when it became available online. I put 2 business cards behind my battery cover (honestly this made my click screen go from unusable to atleast moderately passable). I tried to like the phone as much as I could, and I just couldn't. The lack of WiFi is frustrating, the click screen is exhausting, and the lack of compatible apps make it no more worthwhile for the moment than a proprietary OS. DiVX and Xvid both played, but choppy, so that I had to convert my files using Media Manager. That software itself was a joke, as it took close to 5 minutes to boot up and every time I clicked on it the program would seize!

I never thought I'd say this... but I made the switch to AT&T and picked up an iPhone. I debated on the Bold and the Touch Pro (on Sprint, AT&T and Verizon), and I have to say that as much as I have always hated most of the iPhone/Apple loving groupies that dominate these forums, the device is a PLEASURE to use. Jailbreaking the phone is a piece of cake. Getting iRealSMS makes texting tolerable, and I do not miss the click screen for a single second.

Good idea. Poorly executed. I pray that through software they can fix MOST problems, but any reader who owns a Storm, you HAVE TO HAVE TO HAVE TO put 2 business cards cut to the size of the battery back between the battery and the battery cover plate. You have no idea how much this improves the shoddy/crappy device you own.

RIP RIM
