8GB iPod nano hack {Hack a Day}
Jan 14th 2006 9:49PM OKAY This hack seems really plausible to me and seeing as Im a physicist Im going to go about investigating this in a scientific manner. My friend decided to take apart his Canadian purchased 4GB Black Nano to polish it with brasso. (However in re-assembling it he essentially bricked it) On his circuit board there was NO daughter board just a double stack of the Samsung 537 K9NBG08U5M PCA0 chip with a blank space, big enough for another chip, beside it. I checked the empty spot with a multimeter at the appropriate pins for current and got plenty. I did take pictures and will post them on a page with my findings later. I was planning on buying an 8GB Samsung K9F4G08U0M chip and adding it to my white 4GB Nano... This should be easy IF there is no daughter board.. the only way to find this out without opening my Nano is to X-Ray it or just weigh it in comparison to my friends Nano. One other relevant bit of information is that he purchased his Nano in the 2nd week of production from an apple store, and i ordered mine just before x-mas from the apple online store. Ill setup a wiki page with all of my findings as soon as possible!
