Brutal Legend video talks about the competition {Joystiq}

Oct 9th 2009 7:48PM I'm sorta getting fed up with the marketing. Give me the game already. Pre-ordered that three different times so far. If it's half as good as the demo promised I'll sit through another Jack Black in rubber arms video. But seriously, he should ACTUALLY get buff like that. Then I'd bromance him even more.

Activision 'Rocktober' trademark conflicts with EA's Brutal Legend marketing {Joystiq}

Sep 29th 2009 8:43AM At first they said Activision suing over Brütal Legend was like an ex-husband that sued over the better looking new guy his wife found? Now they've started flinging poo at his car and saying "She's faking it, you know!" onto answering machine.

If this is what the culture between billion dollar publishers is. And THIS (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/columns/extra-punctuation/6228-Yahtzees-Prototype-vs-InFamous-Challenge) is what it is between developers. I can only hope many many big publishers die as soon as possible.

Not gonna happen, I know but it's weird how they grow up to become even more like babies.

Sep 24th 2009 2:35PM Again Europe and the rest of the world gets shafted. Could someone explain to me again why I should pay for XBL Gold?

PSA: Brutal Legend demo available today for pre-orders {Joystiq}

Sep 17th 2009 2:18PM More like

retailers: gets pre-orders
developer: gets confirmed sales (until consumers withdraw preorders)
consumer: gets shafted if he/she happens to live in a third world country without internet or retail chains like say Germany

Really now, there is but a handful of people that can actually pre order this game. I for one can't preorder that from any "officially supported" store despite living in the second largest video games market of the world. I pre-ordered that game with Amazon UK in June. A quarter of a year ago. But I don't get early access because ... right ... Amazon's not charging for pre-orders. This marketing bullshit is getting on my balls.

Sep 16th 2009 1:08PM Well, I've heard the question several times now and I got three points that make lots of sense to me but I can't prove that any of those are responsible for them NOT being in the game.

1.) Activision holds all the music rights in the digital/games market because of their Guitar Hero license and given the struggle about Brütal Legend they probably wouldn't give them up or only for unbelievable amounts of money.
2.) The game's soundtrack is mainly comprised of 70s classic metal and stuff that plays into the category in terms of sound and atmosphere. So far Metallica haven't written anything particularly "epic" (in terms of dragons and lightning etc) afaik.

In my personal opinion I like that Metallica isn't in the game. They have taken some ridiculous positions in recent years and other than that I really can't think of one of their songs that would actually fit the mood of the game.

Dutch retailer boycotts sale of PSP Go {Joystiq}

Sep 16th 2009 11:17AM @Space: Then you've never had a car in a contractors garage for "full service" I've never seen more expensive gas than on those bills. Granted I've mostly seen them on the bills for corporate cars that have a service contract but nonetheless. To alter analogy it's like a dealer refusing to sell you a car if you don't promise to get all his spare parts from him.

A store that sells games and systems needs to sell anything they can to stay in business. To not sell an upcoming console is just stupid to me. No matter how they do it their business will have impacts even more. At least they could sell some Go's and maybe lure customers back to buy something else too. Accessories maybe. But the way they're doing it now they'll go any place else anyhow.

Sep 16th 2009 11:02AM Oh ... my ... fucking ... god ...

This is distilled awesome, I was afraid my screen would crack from all that condensed awesome I just saw. If they would finally make up their mind if the demo comes out tomorrow or if just the pre-order people get it I could sleep tonight.

Can't wait to get my hands on this. This is Double Fine quality at it's finest.

Tim Schafer ... I bow down before you ... I am not worthy. All I can offer you is my money ... and my soul.

Sep 16th 2009 10:37AM Wow so they complain that they will make less revenue if the sell the thing but not the games but their solution is to not make ANY revenue from the device at all. Good luck with that logic.

When was the last time a car dealer refused to sell me a car because he wouldn't be the one filling up the tank everytime?

CE-Oh no he didn't! Part LXII: Steve Ballmer publicly ridicules Microsoft employee with iPhone, threatens to smash it {Engadget}

Sep 11th 2009 6:32AM The proper answer would have been:

"How about building something to replace it then? Oh wait, we tried ... can't get a Windows Mobile to be usable to save our lives. Entirely my fault."
