TUAW Poll: What would you do if an iPhone 4G rolled out on Verizon? {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jul 29th 2009 3:52PM There's no way in hell an iPhone 4g is coming to VZW anytime soon... Seriously, it's an impossibility. VZW has to put up new towers for each LTE site, and LTE is going to get even worse range than 3G networks currently do. What does that mean?

It means Verizon won't have anything even close to acceptable coverage using only their LTE network... for at least several years (by 2013 they're hoping to cover only 100 million points of contact, not customers).

Apple isn't going to neuter their bottom line just to get away from AT&T. I'd say it's more likely that Apple would simply buy a huge stake of AT&T or simply buy a small GSM carrier like T-Mobile. Either of those I still highly doubt.

If people want a 4G Apple product anytime soon, it'll probably be based on Clear's WiMax network (which will be significantly further along than VZWs 4g efforts). Another advantage of that, especially for Apple, is Clear does not care what its users do (voip, gaming, downloading, etc).

Engadget's recession antidote: win a 32GB iPod touch plus a free copy of iPodRip! {Engadget}

Mar 26th 2009 2:36PM poop soup? I'd rather not eat it, but I'll certainly talk about it.

Has anyone removed the flash drive from an iPod touch and put it into an iPhone? Because I might.

Zer01 Mobile's a nomad, will roam with a variety of carriers {Engadget Mobile}

The carrier caps no longer exist, at least as far as you'd be concerned. The MVNO is buying huge buckets of bandwidth that it's responsible, so perhaps zer01 will have some sort of limit imposed but chances are you'll be fine.

Also I think this idea is going to absolutely kill mobile carriers, everyone is going to be like Clear soon. Just handing out incredibly fast data, and serving up voice over a VoIP client that runs on some sort of internet capable device. Just gotta wait for those networks to speed up.

T-Mobile Dash may not be getting an overhaul, may not be in stores now {Engadget Mobile}

Dec 23rd 2008 12:21AM There is nothing, I mean nothing new about it. I'm a retail rep, and saw the spec sheet recently... it'll debut at the same price as the current Dash. I'm pretty surprised by this, especially with rumors flying around the internet about a Dash 2.

This isn't surprising considering T-Mobile's track record of shitty phones. Android is great but even the G1 is a rather lack luster device; especially for a "flagship" product.
