Sony and Nintendo pegged with lawsuit from vague controller patent {Engadget}
Jan 13th 2008 12:22AM You didn't know? How else do you think all these brilliant people on YouTube have connected their Wii remotes to their computers and created really cool modifications?
iriver 3-inch touchscreen "GSM phone" headed for the States {Engadget}
Jan 9th 2008 9:41AM Paul Miller: It says quite clearly in the PC Mag article that the phone WILL be 3G. And I quote...
"One thing's clear, though – it will work on high-speed 3G cellular networks like the one run by AT&T. (As a GSM phone, it won't work with Sprint or Verizon.)"
So all you boys saying it would be stupid for it not to have 3G, don't worry because it will. And for those of you questioning whether or not it's actually based on Linux, again read the full article.
"The icons in the Linux-based phone's UI even look like the iPhone's."
I think it's pretty clear that this phone will kick some serious ass. Linux-based, 3G, iRiver, 2MP camera with video. That's a damn good combo IMO.
So, what'd you get? {Engadget}
Dec 25th 2007 9:06PM I was really hoping for a Nokia N810, but instead I was treated to a Magellan Maestro 3410. Still very cool. :)
Other than that I got cash and clothing. I'll be using some of the cash to pick up Guitar Hero III, a microSD card, big xD card and some other clothing.
Zander to be replaced by Brown as Motorola CEO {Engadget}
Nov 30th 2007 3:26PM I don't see what bringing in Brown as CEO will do. Brown answered to Zander, did he not? Wouldn't it be a better idea to bring in someone with fresher, newer ideas to run the company?
Acelabs S3 touchscreen PMP actually plays useful formats {Engadget}
Nov 8th 2007 11:29PM It's actually pretty easy to get other info from the images on the page itself.
FM tuner with 30 presets, an FM transmitter, built-in microphone, records FM broadcasts as well, plays XviD videos, comes with one pre-loaded game as well.
The battery is only 350mA though. Does anyone know how that compares to other MP3 players or PMPs?
Rogers Wireless launches HTC Touch {Engadget Mobile}
Nov 8th 2007 10:18AM Actually...
It's $399 on a 1-year term, $349 on a 2-year term and $199 on a 3-year term and select voice + data packages.
And while it may not have HSDPA, it does have WiFi, so at least there's that. Not to mention that WMP10 supports AAC, AAC+ eAAC+, MP3, WMA, WAV, QCELP, MIDI, MPEG4, AMR-NB and AMR-WB. That's a healthy dose of codecs out of the gate.
"Wave-and-pay" system headed to Canada {Engadget Mobile}
Nov 8th 2007 10:12AM Between Interac, PayPass and all the independent KeyFOB payment methods out there (like the ones for Shell and Esso), I think this is pretty pointless. Hell, just the other day I used my MasterCard at Starbucks and they didn't ask me for a signature since it was so cheap. It doesn't really get much faster than that.
This will fail, and I'm fine with that. Interac and the banks are already introduce chip-and-pin cards that are supposed to increase the security of debit systems and, well, it would make a lot more sense for Interac to introduce a KeyFOB for use instead of the credit card companies up here.
GE readies its InfoLink phones for November {Engadget}
Sep 20th 2007 4:06PM GE can't make decent 2.4GHz or 5.8GHz cordless phones, and now I'm supposed to trust them to make a decent DECT 6.0 phone with a colour screen? Hah, no thanks. I'll stick to Panasonic, Vtech and Uniden.
Live from Apple's "Mum is no longer the word" event in London {Engadget}
Sep 17th 2007 11:41PM Likely never, at least not legitimately.
From what I heard from someone who works at Rogers, Ted Rogers basically told Steve Jobs to go fuck himself when Apple asked Rogers for a similar scheme that AT&T signed onto. Apple wants, IIRC, 10% of the monthly service revenues and for the carrier to offer an unlimited data plan for a reasonable price (à la $60 AT&T plan) which Rogers doesn't actually have - CAD$210/month for 500MB is the top plan available.
Sony Ericsson W580i goes live on Rogers {Engadget Mobile}
Aug 30th 2007 8:30PM Did you think to check the Rogers website by clicking on the image of the phone itself?
No, of course not. That would be the smart and easy thing to do!
