Gigabyte gets official with 8.9-inch M912V swivel screen netbook {Engadget}
Jul 5th 2008 6:08PM @chase don't be stupid. There are lots of professional that care about these smaller computers. We do real work not play games on them (although I agree it would be nice.).
What is good about this is that it has a reasonable screen a size with a reasonable resolution (this seems the minimum size to run most apps).
Also it has a touch screen and converts into a tablet. So if the battery life is decent (over 5 hrs) and the weight isn't too bad then I think it's great. Basically the Fujitsu p1620 for half the price.
Which is really why this small computer is a big deal. Just like the Eee Pc it is a new pricing structure. It's hard to have Fujitsu justify why their same spec machine is over twice as much. So then the high end machines have to be a whole lot better.
As far as use, have you ever traveled? How about worked in a company where a lot of your time is in meetings? You wanna lug around a laptop all the time? I have the Fujitsu U810. Nice machine and does 90% of what I need on the go.
I almost got the p1620 but figured these were coming out and I would wait.
The touch screen makes these small computers a whole lot more user friendly.
iPhone firmware 2.0 adds Chinese handwriting recognition, Newton sweats {Engadget}
May 5th 2008 6:56PM Jose - not true. I use it for both on my WM PDA. Yes you can use the pinyin for both too. However if you don't know what a character is (i.e. don't know the sound) then you have to write it out or know how too look it up by the radical and strokes.

Astro Systems introduces 56-inch 4K x 2K LCD monitor {Engadget}
Feb 13th 2008 5:06PM True this would be over kill for the consumer market, but there are some real uses for businesses at hte right price point. Design firms who use large drawing sheets (36x24) and want to go completely digital for most of the process. Couple this with a digitizer pen (set for that screen) and now you have remote review of large format documents on the fly. (Imagine conference room to conference room with this in a horizontal configuration) As the price point drops it could replace plan tables on construction sites.
Sprint announces massive layoffs, store closings amid subscriber defection {Engadget Mobile}
Jan 21st 2008 2:23AM I have been with sprint for years, the best prices but customer service is just plain stupid. When the 3g iphone comes out with the SDK and exchange support we will be leaving too. Sprint too bad, you had some good phones but were just too slow and now have no excuse for such lousy customer serivce.
33 megapixel Super Hi-Vision (Ultra HDTV) could be on the air in 2015 {Engadget}
Jan 14th 2008 2:09PM Why is it stupid? I haven't seen a valid argument yet. People it's
progress. So instead of waiting 8 years and then say "hey what’s
beyond hdtv" they are planning it now. Sure there currently is no way
to record, store, or transmit this stuff, but that's how we come up
with it.
Remember when computers first came into use many thought why would
anybody want a computer for the home. I remember attending the worlds
fair and they discussed why voice recognition would never work,
because the learning database would have to be 5 megs large. It seemed
insane at the time, but not now.

Hands-on with the Telus HTC Touch {Engadget Mobile}
Nov 8th 2007 8:26PM Oh Engadget you lost big brownie points on this one. First Sprint gets this phone and no mention of it, but you mention Telus getting it?? What? Then of course this a different animal (mostly good, some bad) from the GSM version.
