Apr 11th 2008 1:24AM I'd love to use this for web browsing on the couch. Plus, it could help keep my trusty old Zaurus company. :D

BTW, the new design rocks, and somehow it seems to load faster... O_o

So how are you liking Ubuntu 7.10? {Engadget}

Oct 24th 2007 7:37PM You can get that back easily. Just install compizconfig-settings-manager (click System->Administration->Synaptic Package Manager, then search for it or use apt-get). Once installed, it shows up under Syste->Preferences as advanced desktop effects.

Seitz Roundshot D3: take a 360-degree panorama in two seconds flat {Engadget}

Sep 21st 2006 11:40PM Heh. I believe that the "remote" attached to that thing is a Zaurus C1000. Actually, I remember lurking on #openzaurus sometime earlier this year or maybe last year and hearing someone talking about using the Zaurus for a similar purpose. This could well be what resulted...

Cambodia bans 3G phones for fear of porn {Engadget Mobile}

May 26th 2006 3:59PM #2 Brian,
"Fun Fact: porn is as addicting or more than cocaine"
Would you care to cite an independent, peer reviewed source?

"Technology isn't morally neutral, my friends."
I'm afraid I don't understand what you mean by that. Do you mean that technology reflects the morality of those who create it? Or do you mean that technology in and of itself has morals? At least in my mind technology is a tool, like a hammer: You can use a hammer to hit someone in the head or pound nails into wood. The hammer, being morally neutral, doesn't have a say about its use.

I'm honestly not trying to start a flame here. I'm interested in hearing your response.

New OLPC deets: 500 MHz, 128MB RAM, Windows CE and no hand crank {Engadget}

Apr 4th 2006 6:19PM Maybe Gnome and KDE are too bloated...but Linux itself holds up rather well on embedded systems. I'm posting this from my kitchen table on Sharp Zaurus SL-C1000 (400MHz Xscale, 64MB RAM, 128MB flash). Witin 128MB I have firefox, abiword, a real xserver, image viewer, ssh/sftp server/client, and some games. I still have lots of flash left to store documentation, documents and images. Granted, firefox drags its ass a little, but there are a couple good non-xul gecko based browsers that would make a very suitable replacement. If they're having trouble making Linux play nice on that thing they aren't trying hard enough.

BenQ Joybook S73, S61 Core Duo laptops with DVB-T {Engadget}

Mar 10th 2006 11:40AM This reminds me: I'm in the market for a ~$1000 ~12" laptop. What are my options besides that Turion 64 barebones kit from MSI and the Apple iBook? I'm pretty much platform agnostic since the thing will most likely end up running Linux anyways (or at least dual booting in the case of a Mac.) Also, I don't care if it's sold natively in the US. Importing things does not scare me. The one feature on my wishlist is s-video out. I wonder what price point the 12" benq thing will come out at...
