French protest proposed DRM law {Engadget}
May 9th 2006 8:03AM I may get flamed for this, but why is considered OK in the USA to be racist to the French? Lots of people consider it OK in the UK (where I am) too. It's really strange because everyone knows it's not OK to be racist to e.g. South Africans, Indians or Japanese.

Address book back up solution roundup {Engadget Mobile}
Apr 28th 2006 5:09AM Here in the UK it's hard to find a phone sold without Bluetooth and/or a USB cable. I'd certainly make sure I could transfer data to/from my phone without going through the carrier.
I understand carriers in the USA restrict customers but are there carriers which don't?
In the UK the network (carrier) Three (Hutchinson) used to block all data except to a few servers through http. People didn't like it and either complained or didn't buy service from them. They realised they made a mistake and now have fairly good data packages.
The customer chooses the service, not the carrier. Don't restrict yourself when you buy a new contract.

Nokia's N73 and N93 launched {Engadget}
Apr 25th 2006 8:19AM The Nokia site (http://www.nokia.com/press/openstudio) also has the N72, which looks like an upgrade to the N70.
I want to know what's better out of the Nokia N80 and Nokia N91. http://dave1010uk.blogspot.com/2006/04/nokia-n91-vs-nokia-n80.html
Sanyo PLC-XF46 12,000-lumen networked LCD projector {Engadget}
Apr 23rd 2006 3:15PM "The $28,000 projector is capable of pumping out 12,000 lumens, but if that's still not bright enough for you, three of these babies can be networked together to produce 24,000 lumens..."
I'm no maths expert or anything but isn't 3 lots of 12,000 about 36,000? Getting a calculator out shows that a mere 2 of these $28k projectors would create the 24,000 lumens.
Maybe these are metric lumens or something.
iCamCU brings spy phone abilities to your Nokia {Engadget Mobile}
Apr 23rd 2006 5:14AM If you can program Python you could do this yourself very easily. Python for S60 supports taking photos (it could even work out if the photo has changed, like a security cam) and it supports reading text messages from the inbox. I'm not sure if it supports MMS but it would be very easy to send an email with the photo, upload it to an FTP site or send it over bluetooth. I'll write a program that does it if anyone wants to pay me (dave1010 at gmail dot com) half what their software costs (I'm a poor university student).
Consumers are/aren't hot for mobile TV, Part IV {Engadget Mobile}

I watch full movies on my phone on long coach or train journeys. Makes the time pass really quickly.
