DivX support finds its way into HP, LG HDTVs {Engadget}
Apr 23rd 2008 3:38PM I totally agree with phanbouy, why steal and watch crappy divx rips when you can watch all the original dvds and blurays you want legally for like $10-$24 a month with Netflix ...
AT&T, Microsoft, NBC working on solutions to filter copyrighted material at the ISP level {Engadget}
Jan 9th 2008 4:11PM What's so ridiculous about saying that P2P traffic is "dominated by copyrighted materials."
Isn't that pretty obvious ? What else would constitute the bulk of the P2P traffic, home videos, yeah right ...
M120 PMP struck with ugly stick, still able to play variety of formats {Engadget}
Dec 9th 2007 9:52PM Alex, you totally missed my point. I am talking about software, not
hardware ! I am talking about Chinese developed software.
Apple and most decent american, european and japanese companies
properly license all technology and third party software they use.
They play by the rules and they make sure their devices are legal.
There are probably some (few) good chinese companies that also do that, but
those making these cheap players most certainly don't. Go and see
for yourself how many chinese companies are licensing the MPEG4
licenses (http://www.mpegla.com/m4v/m4v-licensees.cfm). It's also
laughable to think that they get the licenses from Microsoft that they
would need to support ASF, WMV and WMA or that they publish the
source code of all their software since they most likely use GPL code.
M120 PMP struck with ugly stick, still able to play variety of formats {Engadget}
Dec 9th 2007 9:24PM You all realize that chinese companies producing these cheap players
use ripped of open source software, usually violating the open source
licenses but also do not pay any of the licenses required to support
most of these formats, ... which is why they can just throw
everything they can find and run on the device.
As such these devices really are illegal and should not even be on the market but who can enforce that in China ...
Ricavision kicks out VAVE100 universal MCE / SideShow remote {Engadget}
Dec 2nd 2007 1:43AM This remote does Bluetooth and Sideshow, which is exactly what I am looking for and I don't know of anybody else offering that. I can't even find ones with just BT or just Sideshow.
If only they could actually ship something (the previous model has not yet) ...
Zander to be replaced by Brown as Motorola CEO {Engadget}
Dec 1st 2007 1:59PM
The RAZR was developed before Zander joined Motorola. It just so happened that it started shipping shortly after that and he shouldn't get credit for its success.
DNP unveils daylight-friendly Supernova Flex Screen {Engadget}
Nov 30th 2006 4:50PM MK84, how much did you pay for it ?
How well does this screen work in the dark compared to a regular screen, or can this screen be used in the dark as well without sacrifying anything ?

Microsoft's Live Local (http://local.live.com) beats Google maps in so many ways (full screen, wheel support, zoom box, much higher resolution satellite views, bird's eye view, route planning, ...).
For those who don't know it yet, you've got to give it a try, and a fair one if that's something you are capable of.
So much unjustified hype with whatever Google does ...
