ACCESS and Emblaze Mobile unveil ELSE INTUITION, the Linux-based mobile OS of your dreams {Engadget}

Oct 23rd 2009 9:57PM If they actually implement local (USB) hotsync there will be a market. Just google < "palm pre" hotsync > to get an idea. Even Palm seem to have pitched the baby out with the bathwater on this one: not everybody wants to keep or even move their personal data through the cloud. As the sidekick has recently reminded us.

ALP originally was going to offer a forward-looking hotsync, not just the legacy system now provided (sort of) by Motion Apps' classic. What's it going to be, Emblaze?

ACCESS Linux Platform 3.0 released: Yes it's another mobile phone OS {Download Squad}

Oct 28th 2008 11:09PM Dunno about adding ALP to an existing phone, probably need custom hardware interface code for each phone.

But looks like Emblaze is in the process of releasing a couple of ALP phones (one now, one in 2009) and there are claims of more to come.

Linux-based Samsung i800 gets canned {Engadget Mobile}

Aug 9th 2008 1:30AM Actually, ALP is part of LiMo, so saying LiMo doesn't necessarily exclude ALP. Asked an Access rep at SF LinuxWorld and he remarked (with the usual disclaimer that the OEMs don't tell them anything) that Samsung is still pinging them with dev-related ALP questions. Perhaps not time to abandon all hope just yet.

My own guess, and that's all it is, is that Samsung is spooked by the iPhone's traction and wants something that provides a little more marketing ammo. Doesn't exclude ALP, but probably means that the UI which was demo'd a year ago needs a few tweaks. btw, saw touch-scrolling work on ALP at the recent LinuxWorld, very pretty.

Time to sit back and practice the zen of new handset non-anticipation. :-)

Warner officially announces Total Hi Def hybrid disc {Engadget}

Jan 13th 2007 8:09PM Regarding downloadable replacing discs: who's
ready for (original) divx again? Pay per view forever -- studios would love that.

I almost wonder if the studios didn't encourage dual disc formats just to give distribution bandwidth growth a chance to catch up.
