Sprint and Motorola take a slow boat down Chicago's Xohm fast lane {Engadget}

Sep 26th 2007 10:28PM Twice the speed of Verizon's EVDO network, they say? Sounds a lot like just what I'd expect from EVDO Rev. B or HSUPA, both of which are going to be rolling out late this year/throughout next year in the US. And that network infastructure is already in place.
Sprint's WiMAX spectrum is 2.5GHz, which isn't very good at penetrating buildings or trees, and it doesn't seem to be appreciably faster than what is already available in Europe or what will be available in the near future, so I'm curious... what's the big deal? It sounds like Sprint is banking on something they don't need and consumers don't want.

Palm pulls faulty updates for Verizon's Treo 700p/w/wx {Engadget Mobile}

Aug 13th 2007 2:07PM What the story doesn't say is that the Verizon 700wx has had endless problems connecting to the data network since it was released. I got one in January and have since had 4 replacements, all because they will not stay connected to the data network after a while and they won't reconnect without a reset. $45 a month for unlimited data that doesn't work when you need it to-- if I can't get Verizon to send me a Blackberry instead, it'll be worth it to eat the ETF.

Verizon ready to snatch up Alltel? {Engadget Mobile}

Feb 25th 2007 6:41PM This could be interesting, but what would Verizon gain from this merger? More spectrum in markets where they most likely already have it? Alltel's customers? If this happens, you can count on Alltel's GSM roaming network they got from Western Wireless to disappear very quickly, which would harm T-Mobile and Cingular coverage a great deal in the mountains. In my area, the two cellular carriers are Verizon and Alltel; hopefully the FCC would force Verizon to give up the old Alltel cellular spectrum, just like they forced Cingular to give up spectrum in markets where AT&T and Cingular were the 2 cellular carriers.

Samsung i760 for Verizon: yep, it runs Crossbow {Engadget Mobile}

Jan 20th 2007 4:55PM Why would Verizon disable Wifi on this phone? They deliberately enabled the ability to have wifi and the phone on at the same time with the 6700's firmware update. That isn't to say that they absolutely won't do it, but it sounds a little strange. I'll definitely wait for one of these over the 6800.

TinyTube enables free YouTube search / playback on your mobile {Engadget Mobile}

Nov 11th 2006 4:29PM Doesn't work on my Treo 700p, either.

Sprint Treo 700w by end of February? {Engadget}

Feb 1st 2006 3:59PM Here's a better looking Sprint 700w that I made quickly.

I
hope it's never true, though.
