iPhone to feature eight hours of talk, new glass surface {Engadget Mobile}

Jun 18th 2007 3:30PM The key phrase here is "up to..." 8 hours.

The most important number there is the video playback/internet usage. That's how long a fully charged iPhone can keep the display turned on with a new battery. These numbers will get worse with each charge cycle. That screen is the power hog.

FWIW, I have found through experience in owning many Apple products that Apple usually overestimates battery life by about 100%.

Google Said What about TV on the Internet ? {Blog Maverick}

Feb 9th 2007 1:31PM The problem is the HFC networks that feed everyones cable modems.

The nodes are too big for everyone to be accessing video at the same time. If you've got 1000 homes passed in a fiber node you've got 1000 homes sharing the bandwidth in one loop. Works for email and some percentage of people doing high bandwidth things, but it certainly won't work for everyone downloading video.
