iPhone anti-interference shield puts an end to buzzing speakers {Engadget Mobile}
Jun 26th 2008 2:40PM A little science experiment for anyone with an unlocked phone and both ATT and T-Mo sims to play with. There is *something* with the way that ATT towers talk to the phones (or vise versa) that causes a regular sh1t storm of EM interference. It will set off anything speakerish near by in to a fit of buzzing an popping every so often. Pop out the ATT sim, drop in the T-Mo, wait, nothing. It was an unlocked GSM Treo that I first noticed this with, but I've had Nokia's behave the same.
I even once had an incident where the wife was having a party, I was called in as the speakers on the keyboard (i.e. the musical kind) were popping and I should fix it. I stated that one of the people in the room had an ATT cell on her and sure enough, one was produced. (So yes, this knowledge can be fun at parties!)
I have not played with a Jailbroke iPhone, but my guess is that people with an iPhone and a T-Mo sim have never had an issue with this.
Anyone care to confirm this and post for the rest of us?
Android on a Nokia N95 captured on video {Engadget Mobile}
Jun 19th 2008 5:30PM I would second that.
From the comments:
"and I'm really not sure how exactly Ive ported it, but I'll try to make a tutorial or/and an explanation as soon as i get a conformation from "Google"."
Yup, yah. Woops, I ported Android, how the hell did that happen?
Nokia N800 Internet Tablet unboxed {Engadget}
Jan 6th 2007 4:18PM Ha! Went to buy a 770 Friday at CompUSA and they could only sell me a N800. No info on Nokia's site. The Application Manager defaults the distro rev to Bora, which is cool, but a few major things I've pulled down are not working to snuff yet. (MPlayer, etc) Still longing for a PIM suite. Guess I'll have to write my own. Nice little surprise on the 2 SD slots (manual says they both handle up to 2GB, shweet)
Waiting for Noika to launch the damn thing so I can try the video conferencing!
