Aug 22nd 2008 9:43AM My grand mother was a math and programming teacher, so you would expect to hear that I played chess with her. But we rarely did. Instead we played a lot of Samba. Involved a lot of thinking, but it also had a poker style bluff angle involved.

Apple had a bad day {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Jul 11th 2008 6:38PM Similar level of crappiness for me. AT&T said I was eligible for an upgrade in June and then it somehow got pushed out to Nov. So after a bunch of calls I was ensured by one in store employee and three different phone reps I would be able to upgrade. I got to the AT&T store at 5am, second round of people to get in and managed to get the 2nd to last 16gb, only to be told their was no way I could upgrade. After ~4 hrs on the phone and 5+ hours at the store I wslked out empty handed.

iPhone 3G: everything you ever wanted to know (but were afraid to ask) {Engadget}
Jun 12th 2008 3:40PM I'll throw one that I think you don't have the answer to, but I will try anyway. I am a current non-iPhone AT&T customer. My contract is a little ways off from being over, but because I spend so much money, I'm up for an upgrade in November. What happens if I want to buy an iPhone before I hit my qualified upgrade period? Can I get it at all? Do I pay $200 or do I pay more?
A low cost guide to making music with your Mac, part one {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
May 30th 2008 8:53AM Thanks so much for this guide. I did a bit of recording a couple of years ago (Digi 001 on OS9 - actually the reason I am a Mac user now) but I've been out of it for a while, this little refresher was really helpful. I look forward to the next parts of the series!
Ubuntu Hardy: The latest and greatest or a total mess? {Download Squad}
Apr 1st 2008 11:32AM Happy April Fools Day?
I couldn't tell if this was serious or a joke. I would have been sure it was a joke if osnews hadn't published some similar comments. When I tried it myself I didn't have a lot of stability trouble, just a bit of a disappointment as to how much progress in the distro has slowed. I know this is an LTS, but there haven't been many big new features in a while. There are some cool features from the included software like firefox and Gnome, but not much that Ubuntu is adding. Let's hope the last commentter is right and when the RC's come out we find that we have a really solid LTS release this time around.
The new MacBook (Pros): the fine print {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Feb 27th 2008 8:00AM yeah, there was stuff on arstechnica about the battery tests.
http://arstechnica.com/journals/apple.ars/2008/02/26/the-new-macbooks-battery-life-and-power-adapter
they have always done 3 tests, a dvd test, a wifi and websurfing test, and a "highway" test. they always reported the highway test in the past, and they now are using the wifi test for the numbers. and in the article the rep said that the battery life is actually better.
this is good becuase i bought a macbook on saturday and decided to pay the restocking fee to get a new one yesterday, mainly for the better battery life and less heat
