NewerTech intros quad-interface SATA HDD dock of its own {Engadget}

Dec 2nd 2008 5:53PM Actually of monumental usefulness if you spend much of any time cloning drives (or upgrading HDDs for clients in-place).

Wouldn't mind one myself, but if I try to hint at this for my wife to get me for Christmas, I'm frightened of what I might wind up with ;-)

Detroit Preview: Production Fisker Karma will debut in Motown {Autoblog}

Dec 2nd 2008 2:08PM I really wish Fisker well. The idea that an upstart can do something new and different (and green!) in the luxury market is pretty exciting.

Sadly, though, I, too, have a hard time with that grille, which resembles an attempt to draw a joke moustache on a BMW. And that's REALLY sad, because the rest of the car's gorgeous.

Liquid nitrogen-cooled MSI Wind U100 overclocked to 2.3GHz {Engadget}

Nov 25th 2008 1:28PM Not unlike hooking a Geo Metro up with nitrous...

Atticus Finch is the only fictional character I've honestly adopted as a role model.

Cinematical (Double-O) Seven: Best Bond Theme Songs {Cinematical}

Nov 10th 2008 11:32PM Nobody seems to remember "You Only Live Twice". Not the best Bond, maybe, but rather cool in its way (I always loved that white Toyota 2000GT Sean Connery drove in that one).

Likewise, Nancy Sinatra's theme might not have been an obvious pick, but its haunting melody holds up better than anything on the bottom half of this list.

Intel's Core i7 purchased, overclocked, benchmarked {Engadget}

Nov 3rd 2008 12:13AM Ahhhh... the sooner Core i7 rolls out, the sooner the price comes down on that Q9550 I've been waiting on...

Bell first out of the gate with CDMA Touch Dual {Engadget Mobile}

Aug 10th 2008 2:57PM GRRRRR! I HATE Bell...

My Razr crapped out on me at the beginning of April while I was on vacation. Visited a Bell store and got a Touch (NOT "Dual"), which is OK, but I would have much preferred either the Dual, or even better, an Instinct. But now that I've upgraded, I'm looking at at LEAST a year...

Author Nick Hornby not feeling the fever pitch over e-books {Engadget}

Jul 6th 2008 10:04PM I agree, e-books are still in their infancy, but there's a lot of promise to the technology.

I drive truck. I can't carry 30 pounds of books with me for every trip, but I can load dozens of books into my HTC Touch with Mobipocket. I love the variety of stuff I can get, and it's a reasonably nice interface. I also find it intriguing how many new authors seem to be self-publishing this way.

I do NOT like the lack of portability (due to DRM). This week I read Joan Didion's THE YEAR OF MAGICAL THINKING, and I'd love my wife to read it, too, but there's no easy way for me to share it since she has no device of her own, to read it on.

No, nothing replaces the feel of a print book. Rail is a much more civilized way to travel than air, too.

Author Nick Hornby not feeling the fever pitch over e-books {Engadget}

Jul 6th 2008 9:49PM Not so much that the costs are similar, but that the major book retailers still have enough sway with the publishers that they can still demand comparable pricing.

Since it's still a new market for e-books, and nobody is yet sure how this will shake out, the book retailers don't want to go the way of the record shops.

The profit margins for e-books are actually quite handsome for the publishers.
