Xbox 360's lack of Sony Pictures films streaming on Netflix "unrelated" to competition {Engadget}
Nov 20th 2008 10:51PM "Well, according to a Sony spokesperson, the problem isn't specific to the Xbox,"
So how come Netflix specifically says "this item cannot be streamed TO YOUR XBOX"???
Sure sounds specific to Xbox from where I'm sitting.

HD Netflix streaming goes live on Xbox 360 {Engadget HD}
Nov 20th 2008 8:42PM I should mention that I have a 30Mbps connection, so maybe that helped.
HD Netflix streaming goes live on Xbox 360 {Engadget HD}
Nov 20th 2008 8:40PM Watched a couple episodes of The Office in HD from Netflix. It's a good deal. Quality is more than acceptable. The only thing missing is 5.1 audio support, but evidently offering that is out of Netflix's hands for the time being.
Zune 3.1 update out today - now featuring Sudoku! {Engadget}
Nov 18th 2008 5:46PM Every time Microsoft releases an update for this thing, it gets better and better, and the reaction is more and more positive all around. Quite frankly, I think Apple needs to be worried, because if this keeps up, in 5 years time Microsoft is going to be breathing down their (black turtle-)necks, and once Microsoft gets to that position, it is EXTREMELY tough for a competitor to shake them.

Nov 18th 2008 12:37AM When Microsoft did this with Windows Vista, it was OMG DRM RAAAAAAAARGH!! Followed closely by gnashing of teeth and cursing and screaming...
It'll be interesting to see how the Apple fanboys react to this.

Microsoft exec touts HD streaming over discs, suggests Xbox 360 will outlast PS3 {Engadget HD}
Nov 17th 2008 7:51PM Just because they release the next Xbox doesn't mean they have to stop making the current Xbox. Sony released the PS3, but they still manufacture and sell the PS2, and when they release the PS4 (probably in the next 2-3 years), they will likely continue making and selling the PS3 right alongside it. There is no reason why Microsoft can't do the same.
Microsoft exec touts HD streaming over discs, suggests Xbox 360 will outlast PS3 {Engadget HD}
Nov 17th 2008 5:04PM This statement belies a fundamental misunderstanding of why Microsoft cut short the lifespan of the original Xbox. It didn't cut the Xbox lifespan short because of competitive pressure from Sony or Nintendo; it cut it short because it was stuck in a horrible, money losing deal with nVidia for the GPUs powering the Xbox.
It was a deal that prevented Microsoft from cutting prices on the Xbox, thereby limiting its long-term competitiveness, so it was pretty much forced to cut Xbox loose and shift as quickly as possible to the 360.
With 360, Microsoft learned its lesson, and it has no deals that limit its flexibility and long-term competitiveness. It has the highest market share for a "next-generation" games console (ie. not the Wii), it has the widest selection of next-gen games and it carries the cheapest price point. All of which mean it is in the best position for long-term sustained sales of all the currently-selling consoles.
