Microsoft's latest ad: iTunes and the iPod are crazy expensive {Engadget}
May 11th 2009 9:20PM It would be nice to have a subscription model for iTunes, but let's face it, no way you can listen to 120 GB of content that you have to pay to keep every month.
Then again, the same fanboys promoting the DRM subscription service for the Zune which may on a good day sell one for every 1000 iPods would cry about Apple going belly up the minute a subscription model is enacted in addition to iTunes Plus.

Blu-ray releases on May 27th, 2008 {Engadget HD}
May 27th 2008 3:31AM Cost is what is keeping me from adopting Blu. Yet, I don't get where some people still pour down on here as if the format war continues.
Time Warner Cable drops HD bombshell on New York / New Jersey {Engadget HD}
Apr 3rd 2008 4:33PM Yeah, I have a friend who lives in Manhattan and he really complains HARD about Crime Warner. I think he need to get some neighbors together and try to get a multi-home system setup with DirecTV. DirecTV now has a new setup called MFH3 where they can run satellite signals through an IPTV system that runs the signals over Cat5 cable.
If you live in Manhattan it would be worth looking into. If enough landlords did this maybe Crime Warner would have to compete, then everyone could win.

Ask Engadget HD: When does contrast ratio fail to matter on an LCD? {Engadget HD}
Apr 3rd 2008 4:16PM Great posts, these people know their subject matter.
I'd agree the Sony XBR 4 has the best blacks I've seen on an LCD, although the Local LED Lit Samsungs are very good too. The Kuro's blow everything else way on contrast and black levels not to mention everything else but are very expensive although the Panasonic blacks are nothing to sneeze at as well.
Contrast on most other panels would be not nearly as good as advertisers would have you believe. HDTV's still have a long way to go as far as blacks and contrast in most cases.

The real reason it took so long to crack BD+ {Engadget HD}
Mar 30th 2008 10:58PM I'm also really tired of this line that HD-DVD more consumer friendly because it was easier to crack than Blu-Ray.
For one, HD-DVD used the same type of DRM that Blu-Ray had, AACS. Secondly, HD-DVD was a way for Microsoft to push WinCE instead of Java onto consumer appliances. Finally, HD-DVD was designed basically to undermine Sony and their plans to embed the Blu-Ray format into the PS3. Ironic then M$ lost this because they didn't put enough stock in HD-DVD to put it into the Xbox 360... or were they scared that if they didn't get the Xbox 360 out earlier that they would be smoked severely by the PS3?
The FUD here is way too much for me to sit aside on this one.

Mar 30th 2008 10:52PM Truth Teller,
Plenty of people continued to buy DVD's after that copy protection got broke. What makes you think it's going to be any different this time around?
